I thought I'd bump this...

Myself and several Aggie divers are invading Austin next weekend for a weekend out at Mansfield Dam.

I was wondering, where are the closest dive shops to Mansfield, and how much are their air fills (and also their shop hours). We're looking at 2 dives on Friday and 3-4 on Saturday, and would be doing tank fill runs in between.

Thanks,

Aggie Diver

It's on that main road before you cut off to go to the dam. How's that for directions! haha. It's only about 10 min. from the park. The shop wasn't much in the way of merchandise variety but they had great airfills for $4. They worked with us for our last TSDT get togther and gave us air for $2 if we brought in multiple tanks at a time. Not a fancy place but nice folks.

Dive World on 620 is also somewhat convenient for Lake Travis diving - it's maybe 10-15 minutes from Mansfield and the fills are $4. They have a small strip-center shop but decent merchandise. (As previously noted - Mike is a real nice guy and if he doesn't have something - he'll order it for you.) We use them for our fills and misc. equipment & stuff, but use Scubaland further into Austin for our classes and equipment as well. We also like Tom's, but rarely get into Central Austin to stop by - we live north, out by the lake ......

Dee is correct- the closest shop to Mansfield Dam is Dive Texas which is now called Dive World 2 and has the same ownership is the Dive World further down 620. The address is 6808 R.R. 620 North, one block south of FM 2222. They are literally minutes from the Dam and fills are $4. They are open Tues - Fri 10am - 7pm, Saturday 8am - 7pm , Sunday 9am - 5pm. They have a friendly and helpful staff... especially their Divemasters...

I'm going to chime in and vote for Oak Hill Scuba. Got my reg and computer from them before I moved to Oklahoma! I think they still have an old reg of mine too...I forgot to check on it before I moved...LOL...

Another dive shop not in Austin, but close, is The Dive Shop in San Marcos. I certified there and was lucky enough to do three of my OW's at Aquarena with Jim...and Don has stories that can keep you in the shop listening all afternoon...

I will agree with everyone about Oak Hill Scuba. They have a great staff, great rental gear and very friendly. But not that close to the dam.

Dive Texas is the closest shop to the dam. Recently closed and re-opened with different owners. They seem very nice and want you to leave a happy customer. They are less than 2 miles from the dam and only about 2 miles from Windy Point. best place to get tanks and refills if you are diving the dam. Tanks at 6 bucks and refills if you have your own at 4. That is pretty much standard any place in town you go. If you are looking for Nitrox I would suggest making the drive to Oak Hill.

There used to be a great shop not far from Windy Point where the road intersects 620, but I can't remember the name of it. I've heard it's closed now, which is really unfortunate because the owner was a really nice guy.

Hey ST, I think you are thinking of Pisces...I loved going over there to hang out and chat, but I believed he closed due to landlord issues...they had a great onsite pool, too.

Yeah, I do believe you're right, Angie. Pisces does sound familiar. I bought my first scuba T-shirt there.

BTW, The Dive Shop in San Marcos is a nice shop, but I had a hard time finding it the last time I was there. I didn't know it was on the other side of town from Aquarena Center. Someone told me it had been along the I-35 corridor at one time.
