Hi;
i just got back from grand caymen, and i was having trouble at some dive shops being allowed to rent tanks and dive, i had gotten my basic cave cert in aug. that was the only card i brought with me. one shop noticed that there is no diver # on the card and no picture of me, they were nice and just had me put the instructor # on the form, anouther would not recognize the card at all even with me showing my drivers license with the picture, i was pissed so i told them to look up my padi advanced certification on line, he did and i was allowed to dive, when getting ready my wife and the other couple were getting in the water and when i hooked my tank up it only had 2600 psi in it, since they were ready to go i just went in, shallow dive, after when we said something they just blew my wife off. needless to say we didn't dive with them anymore. has anyone else had a similar problem? the whole point of going with this agency was to prove that i had the best training. thanks in advance for your input, Dan

he was kind of a jack a$$, i'm telling him that overhead enviornment traing is far superior then most any other training, and he said he wouldn't even recognize the card.

I'm not too surprised. There was a thread around recently about how "specialized" and tech certifications, no matter how rigorous, tend not to be seen as much (and hence recognized) at tourist-focused, "resort" locations. It sucks, but it is what it is.

Sounds like you ran into an idiot. Lots of agencies don't have photos or numbers.

Agreed.

NSS-CDS is the largest cave diver training agency in the world, and the best IMHO.

The guy who did not recognize your card is obviously uninformed. Was he a Caymanian or an expatriate?

i think he was austrailian, he was a divemaster or an instructor because he was able to look up my padi advanced certification. this was a padi 5 star dive center, i think it was sunset house, it is just past where the cruise ships come in

Well there ya go.

If he would have Googled NSS-CDS before he did the PADI inquiry he would have seen quickly that NSS-CDS is an internationally recognized agency.

Maybe he has eaten too much vegemite. :popcorn:

Was it part of a condo complex?

we went to dive tech and had a nice dive and the people were great, i went over the wall and hit 205', then came back up just before deco, did't want to go into deco i only had an 80 and it was a good swim out to the wall i knew i wouldn't have enough air to go through any deco time to do a proper acent, but you get a nice buzz feeling at that depth

Or maybe he just recognized what sort of diver you are, and didn't want to deal with it.
