I'd go with tunicate. There's a picture of something very similar in Gosliner, Behrens, & Williams' book "coral reef animals of the Indo-Pacific. Listed simply as Didemnid sp (meaning it's in the family Didemnidae but not identified any further than that) all the book says is "This strange didemnid tunicate is composed of an encrusting mass with stringy lobes. Color greyish-white. This species has been found on the ceilings of caves and overhangs."

It reminds me of one of those, and come to think of it... I think I did see marks all over under that ledge!

Sponges and tunicates 'drip' to form new sponges and tunicates in other locations so its asexual reproduction...

I see my original query about what it felt like was not heeded. Come on Kev, grow some brass ones and take a feel! Heck, you can probably wear gloves and still determine whether or no it's a sponge or a tunicate.

TOUCH IT TOUCH IT TOUCH IT TOUCH IT TOUCH IT TOUCH IT
