Sea&Sea DX-1G review Question

Who has a DX-1G, and who can tell me if the camera is pleasing. If not tell me the cons, and pros of the camera.

Pros:

1. Looks great!
2. Shoots great on land
3. Using ISO 80 you get lovely pictures
4. Ability to shoot RAW
5. Buttons are well placed


Cons:
1. Noisy above ISO 100 so have to use strobe
2. Onboard flash is not powerful
3. Underwater setting doesnt really cut it, have to use RAW or
color balance often
4. RAW files take 6-8s to write
5. Buoyant like a bloody float

Overall, this camera takes fantastic photos on land, however when it comes to underwater the noise generate by pushing by the ISO is really bad.
It doesnt perform well in low light so a strobe is a must!
Plus the bloody stxpxd RAW files take forever to write and the underwater setting of the camera doesn't color correct properly for JPG setting.....

This camera is really meant for someone who understands shooting techniques (aperture, shutter) to be able to use properly

If you have the know how and strobes andall..it takes great photos

I don't disagree with anything DJarth mentioned. That being said.... is there any underwater cam you want to utilize without an external strobe?

I have had mine for a couple months now. A few of the things like "Noise" are correct. I don't shoot above ISO 100, usually Im on 80. Are the equivalent P&S's like the Canon G9 better? I don't know.

I have yet to venture into Manual modes. I'm shooting strictly Auto at the moment. There's a couple slide shows in my siggy line. DX-1G, YS-110 strobe, Wide Angle lens on some. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions, I'll try my best to give you a heads up of my experience with this Cam.

The camera takes great pictures. Here is a link that shows pics taken by ESKASI with the DX-1G http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/un...sea-dx-1g-sipadan-mabul-kapalai-malaysia.html. If you click on my "photos" link in the left panel and clikc on my Galapagos album you can see some pics I took with the DX-1G. To get the colors you absolutely need an external strobe. I use the Sea&Sea YS-110 and it works well. I also have a few pics from a trip I took to the Red Sea that I haven't uploaded yet but will send them to you if you want to look at some others. The DX2G is out on display at DEMA. differences from DX1G are larger screen on back, no video mode, 12 Mp. It fits in the DX1G housing, but the screen is not fully visible. The reps are unable to say if the 2G has corrected the screen brightness problem that brought about a camera manufacturers firmware update (a thread on this board).

Found out the best reason to wait for the 2G (or to replace a 1G) -- It can take 5 RAW photos in sequence before needing a pause to write due to a bigger buffer ;> No more 17 second wait between photos.

HI Guys-
The DX-2G will be available in the spring and available as camera/housing set or with lighting packages and accessories. Price and availability is TBD. The DX-2G camera is not compatible with the DX-1G housing, it does fit, but with a 2.7" LCD and button relocation not all items are accessible 100%. And yes, the housing is a frosted clear polycarbonate and Ricoh has upgraded for the LCD brightness and contrast in comparison to the DX-1G. Stay tuned for more information when it is available.
