There has been a lot of discussion regarding the DX-1G and the DS-TTL option on the YS-110. Many say that the since the DX-1G does not have a TTL flash capability that this option doesn't work for the DX-1G (as I understand this means that the flash reads the amount of light off the subject being photographed and when it judges that sufficient light has been applied it shuts off the flash). The YS-110 manual states that when the strobe is connected via a fiber-optic cable to a compact digital camera with TTL metering, the YS-110 strobe offers DS-TTL (Digital Slave Through-The-Lens) light adjustment. However, I can't find in the DX-1G manual any reference that states that the DX-1G uses TTL metering. However, the Sea&Sea representative posts that you can use the DS-TTL option with good results with the DX-1G.

I would like to hear from the Sea&Sea rep how the DS-TTL function works. Does the DX-1G utilize TTL metering? If not, how does the camera link to the DS-TTL function in the strobe so that the stobe knows when sufficient light has been applied to the object being photographed. Perhaps the DS-TTL function is nothing different than using the strobe manually. If that's true I would like to know that.

Regards,

Bill

HI Bill-
The DX-1G along with most compact digital cameras do utilize TTL flash metering for the onboard flash. It may not be mentioned directly in the manual due to the fact that there are no options such as with an SLR camera. When used with a YS-110, the new YS-110Alpha (to be released in a few weeks), YS-250Pro, or another manufacturer's strobe with similar slave TTL, the camera's onboard flash will be mimicked by the strobe and provide the proper exposure on the subject from the metering information from the camera. The DS-TTL is not a hard-wired connection like on an MDX-D300 housing or other SLR, but this feature will achieve a high enough accuracy to be redeemed extremely reliable and even further upgraded in the new YS-110Alpha. Please contact us at seaandsea@tusa.com if you have further questions.

I have just purchased the YS-110Alpha as a second strobe, I already have a YS-110 and have been using it on the DX-1G with mixed success. Problems have been with the flasd not always firing. I am hoping the Alpha will fix the problem
I notice in the Alpha instruction manual it says to attach a fibre optic cable adaptor to the DX-1G and there is a diagram of how to fit it. It says it is included with the DX-1G set but there was definitely nothing included with my DX-1G set. The adaptor looks like it moves the fibre optic sockets to directly over the flash window.
I can't find this adaptor as an accessory on the Sea&Sea web site. Does anyone know how to get one of these adaptors?

The part number (and aquisition instructions) were in the press release for the YS-17 strobe. All you need to do is call Sea & Sea with the serial number off your DX1G housing and they will mail one out to you -- It only took two weeks to get mine

HI Treb-
You should contact your local retailer or distributor. The SEA&SEA part # is 0226 (DX-1G Fiber Optic Cable Adapter). This adapter accepts up to 2 FOC's and positions them directly in front of the 1G on-board flash. This will alleviate the intermittent issues with strobe firing and give enhanced DS-TTL results. Your distrbutor should have them in stock or be able to provide one quickly.

I have to say that having a Sea&Sea rep answering questions is commendable. So often you don't understand a function on a camera but have nowhere to go to get an answer. I appreciate the fact that Sea&Sea takes time to answer our questions.

Just my thoughts

I fully quote u... Mr Sea&Sea's support is making my dreams-basket plenty of gifts for next XMAS :D Thanks

Thanks Mr Sea&Sea,
I chased up my rep after suggestion by Keith and was quickly supplied with part #0226.
He did say he not been asked for the part by anyone before me.

I have tried it and now get very few failures of the flash not firing, even in the Auto mode. Failures now are probably now due to me being too trigger happy and not waiting long enough for the flashes to charge up.

Cheers and thanks for the help,
Treb

Hi
My question is posted to Mr Sea&Sea as well as those DX1-G ownerson the forum here - I need some help and guidance.
Being the proud owner of my new DX1G YS110 strobes and wide angle lens I set about the task of getting better pics than previously.

After 16 dives in Thailand last year I am beginning to question my investment especially now the YS110 has been superceded as well as the DX1-G.

So here are the problems:
Overall - The camera seems to have much problem getting the strobe to fire with the camera - Result dim pics!

Questions: I have the fibre optic synch cords (Product No. 50107) and I have checked flash fire on surface and indeed there appears to be a problem - does the synch cord have a problem? As the Sea&sea rep points out there is an adapter - part no is 0226 (DX-1G Fiber Optic Cable Adapter), but I am not sure how this helps? On the Sea7sea housing there are 2 synch cable holes that place the "L" shape end of the synch cord in front of the flash

Any help or suggestions on this would be fab !!!
