Buoy,

I think I might have recently posted something here about Britannic, so excuss me if I am repeating myself.

Britannic is a great dive. I think Richie and I were really on to something that could give us greater insight into the wreck and the sinking.... then again I have been wrong before as well? You never know until you get there.

However, the Greek government and the new Foundation are impossible to deal with. I don't think they are honest, and I don't think they represent the best interests of the wreck. They do not like the way they have been protrayed in our TV programs, as well as Brad's book. They don't care for me, and I don't care for them. I doubt I will be returning.

So many wrecks, so little time.

Cheers

JC

Maybe Pete needs to start another thread with those stories! I'm sure they are a hoot!

Btw...I finished reading the new book, great stuff! Didn't you mention a project forthcoming that had more to do with your Britannic dives? Or am I comfusing this with theTitanic book (and the Britannic references within?)

I agree with you Gombessa, I loved the book and couldn't put it down. I had the great fortune of meeting both John and Richie in the Keys. Great guys both of them. Having spent more time with "Carla's husband" as he likes to refer to himself, I must tell you that the sense of adventure is still alive and he's still searching for buried treasures! My friend John T calls him the modern day Jacques Cousteau, I think it'll catch on! The guy isn't boastful, he's got a grainy sense of humor, and a passion for diving! Next you should pick up a book on the Titanic written by the same author as Shadow Divers, The Lost Secrets of the Titanic is the title I think lost or last. I need to go pick it up and read it. I'm sure it will be about Chatterton's trip down to 12,500ft! Awesome stories!

I failed to mention that the "Horenburg knife" is not with the Uboat Archives at Cuxhaven. I returned the knife, and one of the bowls from the same cabinet in the NCO quarters, to Martin Horemburg's daughter. If you remember, she was born after her father left on the U-boat's last mission.

On another note, Titanic's Last Secrets is by Brad Matsen, not Rob Kurson (who wrote SD).

Cheers

JC

Stingray,

Rob Kurson, who is not even able to swim, is a brilliant writer and Richie and I continue to be flattered by the nice things people have to say to us.

When we went back to see Horst Bredow at the U-boat Archives in Cuxhaven, we offered them all of the evidence we recovered from the site. They had no interest in the "crockery", and were not interested in the O2 cylinder from the Excape Lung (I am not sure why?), but they accepted pretty much everything else and I understand they have taken those items and created a nice display there in the Archives, although I have not seen it.

Cheers

I have an idea for another adventure book. How you and Richie survived eating at Scottys for that long. I suspect that that was far more dangerous than the U-Boat. OMG that restaurant is scary bad. :shocked2:

Good thing you're paying attention. I just ordered the book and I thought the author's name was different! Happy Hunting in 2009 J.C.!!!

Tri,

No one, not Richie, not me, not Rob Kurson, or anyone else I am aware of, has ever refered to Scotty's as some sort of fine dining establishment? I can assume it has not changed?

We were deep wreck divers who had spent all of our money diving a German U-boat, with our wives not at all happy with us. Scotty's was a cheap steak, french fries, beer, no dress code, and close to where I lived. Besides, they would let us in? That was about it.

Cheers

JC, No doubt. My buddy and I went about a week ago AGAIN after all our previous close calls. I swear that neither of us was able to eat the food. I have no idea how they survive. Remember they're paying Millburn taxes! They are trying. They've now turned the upstairs into a "comedy club". They had a poker night which stopped a few months ago. BUT...the beer is cold and the peanuts are good AND it is convenient.

One of the things that Kurson did really well with the book, that I doubt they will be able to replicate with the film, was the way he portrayed John and Ritchie as regular guys struggling to juggle commitments at home and at work, whilst dealing with the danger and intrigue of the mystery U-boat.

I suspect the Hollywood version of movie superheros will just gloss over all that stuff (and I also suspect that the waters of New Jersey will suddenly become Caribbean crystal clear... and probably also filled with sharks and other sea monsters for good measure).

Wow...

Was flipping through the channels a bit ago and came across an old episode of DSD...It was the episode about the Cornelia B. Windiate. Caused quite a bit of reflection and great memories...Back to the days of divemaster training, 9:00 on Monday nights, follows on the DSD boards and some book.

Got the drysuit down John...20 lbs with that freaking heavy undergarment....0 lbs with thinner...I'd rather be a bit cooler. I'll save the heavy one for the next time I go to the *@%#ing Artic Circle...
