How do YOU look for teeth?

Ok so we missed the how to find teeth class... / but living here and hearing people talk about it so much I figured why not just go out and see what we can find. So after reading all the posts we went down and took the boat just off shore of service club about 1.5 to 2 times out farther than the pier in 22 ft. Landed in the desert. Moved in a bit to closer to 18 ft and found the areas of broken rock and shell ... We started finding the smaller teeth pretty quick. Just on the surface keeping the head 1 foot off the bottom. And scanning small areas.

We've found a few 3 inchers that way. But for the folks that go all the time / what are you doing? When we had the ScubaBoard Thanksgiving I was kind of surprised to find nice patches of small teeth in 15 just on the southside of the pier. (Though for those of you that were there you'll remember it was a rough day...)

So My question is how have you had the best luck? Or you covering more distance looking for the larger ones? Are you screening the first few inches? Or are you just looking for them on top. Got a few 100 tooth days out there / and can't wait till it warms up a bit to get back in...

Pretty much how I do it - granted I have only found 1 big meg that is quite worn. I find mostly small teeth (.5 - 1.5 inches) - a boat would be nice

The more ground you cover the better your chances.
I don't waste time digging.
I don't stop to look for small teeth.
I pull a lot of junk that looks promising out of the sand.

With the usual vis we have in Venice:
It's 10% skill the rest is just luck to be swimming over the right spot.

What depth do you find most productive at service club? I've dove there once, and didn't go any further west once I ran into the large cubes.

It depends on my goal for the dive...

If you want quantity, and 100s of teeth, a slower pace AFTER you fine the correct bottom
If you want the 2"+ trophy Mega, you need to cover more ground (and skip the little stuff)

There are no cubes at Service Club.
There is a reef of concrete pipe to the SW betwwen the pier and Service Club.

I like to get to the 20'-25' depths.

But have found megs just off the sandbar.

HAHA. The vis was so bad, I assumed the pipes were cubes, similar to the ones at Alhambra. As soon as I ran into it, literally, I turned around.

If I remember correctly, the pipes are in about 19'. To get to 25', you must go out pretty far.

I second what 2th Diver said. I usually stay about 3 feet off the bottom and look for the right shapes. I pick up the small ones if I am right on top of them but I don't try to find them specifically. Like 2th, I try to keep moving but when I get to an area that I find more than one tooth I will usually slow down and go over it pretty well.
