The "bait and switch" is just plain BS.
No dive operation could (and from the quotes Saba did not) PROMISE a specific dive.
They could endeavour to give you the diving they wanted, but if conditions/experience/or anything else make the dive potentially unsafe for whatever reason, they have the right and obligation to cancel/change the dive/site/depth for safety reasons.

IMHO Saba did not misrepresent on anything, you are just being childish for some or other reason.

I have a 12 year old daughter, with more than 70 dives, all on nice, calm, shallow, pretty reefs, and we enjoyed each and everyone of these.
On the last holiday the whole family of divers did shallow dives to enjoy the trip with her.
She has the rest of her life to enjoy deeper dives when she is ready.

IMHO you are going to put your son off diving or hurt him in the not to distant future.

Dear Scuba Board Divers

I'm here in Europe for several dive shows and couldn't follow all the discussion.
Believe me I feel this is as crazy as it gets with Mr. FAS.

Let me make a last statement: we don't bait and switch people into dives on Saba. I'm very happy and proud that most of you and your postings do understand what we stand for and when I read through it I'm happy that there are so many great people in our dive community. Thanks to all of you. It makes me feel really good about what we are doing and that's why we are doing it.

I do not feel intimidated by Mr. FAS because I'm sure that we made the right decision. We have done our best to protect Mr. FAS's son and made sure he had great dives. We offered a good service (which Mr. FAS took gladly) and that's what he paid for in the end. For this gentleman it's obviously all about the money.....sorry it isn't. It's about diving and safety, its about being a responsible instructor and dive operator. What ever Mr. FAS will say, we will continue to be a safe, fun & responsible dive center which will do its best to show divers the beauty of diving. I'm sure he will never get what ever we say and that's why we will not spend more time answering his postings or unnessecary emails. We have others divers they deserve our attention so they can have a great and safe dive vacation on Saba.

Thank you guys again. It's so great to know that you are out there! You have the right attitute the dive community needs for a safe and fun future of our commen hobby and profession!

We wish you always safe and fun dives where ever you go.

I have been following this thread for awhile and I must say:

First off:

To Quote SA-DIVER: "No dive operation could (and from the quotes Saba did not) PROMISE a specific dive.

IMHO my family is from Saba, I learned to dive on Saba my moons ago and I can honestly say because i have been in and around the dive business in St Maarten, Saba and Statia for over 15 years. Saba has an amazing safety record as a destination. One of the reasons for that is they are careful and responsible with there divers.

No dive operation can be reasonably expected to not change a dive plan based on potentially unsafe circumstances.

My 2 Cents

Clearly, someone needs to pay for me to go to Saba and investigate this first-hand and report back. Perhaps to enhance the investigatory perspective I should take my kids along; you know to get their take on the issue.

Sure, it will be a bit of an imposition, and I will probably need to undertake numerous grueling dives to get a full appreciation of the situation, but someone has to do it....we need to get to the bottom of this. So send me a PM and I will give you information about where to send the funds and I will make the arrangements. Oh, some extra money for lodging and meals and so on would be a good idea.

I will submit a full report following my [-]vacation[/-] investigation.

Finally a post that makes sense in this thread. Do you need a buddy?

Glad your Giants got wasted in the playoffs!

Holy cow why the flames? Thems my Gints too, and for the record I don't have kids so there is no reason to drag Big Blue into this!:shocked2::depressed:

It seems to me that it's hard for you people to stay on topic... That being said, it's my turn to do the same.

Leave the guy alone about taking his son diving already... that wasn't the subject of his post. Besides, millions of kids are put in danger every day by their parents... at least he and his son have training. I'm sure most of you grew up as cityfolk, so you can't attest seeing (or being) a 12 year old driving a tractor... alone... with no supervision... well, with the supervision of other 12 year olds... Egad people, put it in perspective. How many of you let your kids walk home from the bus across/down a busy road? Some years ago, our next door neighbor's son was hit by a car while getting off the school bus... ok, he might have been 13 at the time.

So do you let your 12 year old go on "dangerous" rollercoasters? Proabably. Ever read the warnings? Understand the physical damage that can be done? Probably not. Again, perspective. Nothing is inherently safe. Risks are everywhere.

I know I wasn't the only one, but it sure feels like I was the only one that actually understood the post for what it was.

:rofl3:Loved your post! I'd be more than happy to be your buddy, but I see you already got an offer for one.

Well I am going down at the end of March, I guess I will have to go over for a day and dive with the operator in question...... (arm being twisted).......I will report my findings.

We should get a pool going for what your findings will be. I am putting my money on "They were a well run safety conscious outfit" or some variation on that.
