Why can't we have a site for those that own Sea&Sea cameras?

I agree with Alcina that continuing to sub-divide the population will result in less real discussion. I think the Photography and Videography sections are the only two that I will consistantly go in and see who has posted but will rarely look in every sub-forum. Having said that, I believe that I, and many others, can add valuable insight or opinions in threads on equipment that we do not use. I also use the New Post feature but depending on the time between, I can miss a lot of threads. I shoot both Nikon and Canon so this specifically does not impact me, but I wanted to give my .02.

I also have wondered why Sea & Sea didn't have a sub forum. figuring their forum in the Manufacturers area served that purpose. Since we have one for Nikon, Canon, Sealife, etc. it seems Sea & Sea should have one as well.

Make that 5 votes El.

I agree with Alcina also, but personally I'd like to see it reorganied into a DSLR section and a P&S section and get rid of the differnet brands. Reason being that I think P&S or DSLR users have more to learn from and share with each other then they would from other "fans of the brand" using diffenrent types of cameras (insert P&S for DSLR int eh above statement and my argument remains the same). Grouping by brand makes it more complicated and seems to reinforce brand loyalty (not that there's anything wrong with that, or right either). Just that IMHO users of similar types of systems will exchange more info from users of the same type of system regardless of brand, than they will from users of a completely differnent type of system from the same brand.

For example how much can a Canon Eos 5D user learn from a G10 user, whereas how much could that same 5d user learn from a Nikon D700 (or whatever the Nikon/Olympus/Pentax/Sony/Acme equivalent is) user (or vice versa) whereas how much could that same G10 user contribute to a P6000 user (or vice versa).

I hope not to stir up a Nikon vs Canon vs Olympus or other brand argument, but I use a Nikon P&S and have learned a lot more from threads in the Canon and Olympus specifinc to diffenrent models of P&S cameras than I have from any of the Nikon DSLR threads. Htere are so many morsels of info out there that one has to go digging for that eventually it can become overwhelming. And I'm willing to bet that the DSLR users could say the same thing, that there more pertinent info regarding housings or lenses or ports, etc, from DSLR users of other brands than there are from users of P&S camreas of the same make.

This is an idea that I could definitely get behind.

I beg to differ. I like the fact that I don't have to scroll way down the page to look at new threads because somebody wants to compare which SeaLife wideangle lens works better with their SL500 and whether the SL600 is really superior to the 500 in shutter speed or some other stuff that has nothing to do with me. I don't think any Canon owners much care which Sea & Sea port & gear works best with my Nikon AFD 60mm micro, or whether you need a .2 or .4 diopter to put it behind a dome either. I found the Olympus thread very helpful when I first got my SP, because we owners could go there and trade and find detailed information about camera specific settings that wouldn't disappear off the page in a couple of days because someone else wanted to post their newbie pics of a Sea Fan with backscatter. No knock on posting pics, as you well know that I enjoy putting my crappy stuff out there for the world to see, I just think that the Photo section works nicely as is. You can index a bit better and find what you really want to see. The general interest stuff goes in the main section, and I often check the titles in the various brand specific threads to see if anything interests me. If I see that someone is comparing the general qualities of a Seatool vs. Sea & Sea housing for the Canon 40D in the Canon section, I'm on it like white on rice because I might want one of them for me D300. Let the Sea & Sea guys have a thread (though I don't think we're there yet for Intova...)or lump the dedicated cams together (Sea & Sea, SeaLife, Intova...) like they do over in the brand W(etpixel) forum.
One of the reasons I spend more time here than there these days is I like the format as it is.

What the Great Randini said.

Randini and Larry - excellent posts, thanks!

There's no perfect world, for sure. I think a new subforum for the Sea&Sea users makes sense in the context of how things are set up now and so, with that in mind, vote to add it.

I still don't really like all the subforums as I KNOW that people miss out on extremely helpful information because it's not under the heading of the brand they are thinking about. There just aren't that many totally brand/model specific questions out there once one gets past "which camera". Ultimately, I'd like to see a different organization of the subforums ... just haven't figured out or seen suggested the very right one yet.

In my opinion, the ultimate organization of forums would be to have seperate manufacturer forums for the main brands where brand specific technical questions can be asked and answer. Such forums would not be used for general user questions like, "would users of the new DX1200 HD please provide feedback on how you like your camera."

Then, we should have a P&S forum and a DSLR forum; both across all brands which would be used for the questions like the above.

In lieu of re-organizing all the forums though, I would like to see a Sea & Sea brand forum like the Canon only forum.

I would have no problem with diver jim's suggestion; however, I don't think that is going to happen. Therefore, I am formally requesting that a Sea&Sea forum site be established.

Bill

Is it possible to have a 'super forum' section that could show all the topics from all the separate photography sections, yet leave all the current sections as they are?

This is a simple idea but hard to explain. You know how on some computers you can make a folder that looks like it contains a bunch of files, and you click click on and access them in it, but the true original files are actually in many other locations on the hard drive?

Okay, is it possible with ScubaBoard forum software (whatever that is) to leave all the photography forum sections in place, but add a separate one that includes all the threads from all of them?

Maybe not, but it would offer people a choice between the 2 extremes.

At 'TurtleForum.com', I use the 'View New Posts' option to quickly browse what's going on in the forum sections, but busy as that forum is, I think ScubaBoard.com is so huge such a feature would bury me under new posts most every time I clicked on it, but I may have to try it (just spotted the feature at the top of this forum page - learn something new every day, I guess!).

Richard.
