Hi, Florida Conch Diver,

Bernie Chowdhury and a group of his tech students will be diving Key West Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If anyone is interested in diving the Vandenberg, there are still open spots on the boat. Below is an excerpt of the email Bernie sent out to his students and I have his permission to repost a portion of it in this forum:

Had a great conversations with Eric Schaaf, the manager of Southpoint Divers in Key West. We're all set to dive on their morning trips to the Vandenburg, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 12, 13, 14.

Please NOTE the following:

- The dive boat will leave at 8 am

- It is a short ride to the wreck, as it's only 7 miles away and the boat is fast.

- The shallowest parts of the wreck come to 40 or 50 feet of the surface. The main deck is at 95 feet. The sand is at 140 feet.

- Our in-water times are limited to 45 minutes on each dive. We have a one hour surface interval, during which time the dive boat moves to a different spot on the boat. You need to plan and execute your dives to stay within those time frames.

- THERE IS TO BE NO PENETRATION OF THE WRECK ON ANY OF THE DIVES. (Please respect this as there are liability issues.)

If you are interesting in joining the dives, please contact the Southpoint Divers in Key West directly.

Hmmm, what time is the Sunday trip? That is the only day I can possibly make the trip.

Dunno but would assume 8AM but may be best to call Spouthpoint to make sure. Would be awesome if you could make it, I know the boat is not full yet so thought I'd post given the interest to dive The Vandy.

Eric is great. I have known him 12 years, and they will take good care of you over there. Make sure you get there in PLENTY of time to get your gear down to the dock. You will have to haul it from the parking lot through the hotel area, pool area, and then down the dock to the boat. So word of advice is to bring a cart or try to sneak one out of the hotel to use. ESPECIALLY since you are going with a Tec group and there will probably be divers with doubles and stage bottles. You dont want to have to haul that gear for a good football field of distance to get to the boat

ENJOY YOUR DIVES!!!!

I've been diving with SouthPoint for well over 15years. The walk from the parking lot is far less than a football field, but skipping that error the shop has always had their own cart to carry divers' persoanl equipment when needed. All you have to do is ask, and they'll even help you with a smile.

Many thanks WreckDivingFool and CaptBill for your posts.

I believe that on Sunday, Jrock, Designdiver, me, and another member of SB (sorry, I forgot his name) will be diving the Vandy. They will be here to dive in Jupiter on Saturday, then we're heading down to Key West after the dive to spend the night and dive the Vandy on Sunday. What perfect timing! :D

Sandy - I know about that because I've promised Jrock I'd see you guys Saturday night regardless of whether you're on the same dive boat as me or not on Sunday. I gave jrock the info but am not sure what local operator he's using. I believe he's going to compare costs before deciding. See you Saturday. :kiss2:

Cool! I hope we get on the same boat! Regardless, it'll be fun spending SI with you and hopefully other SB'ers will join us! :kiss2:
