Probably asked and answered a million times, but here goes.

I am new to diving. I live in Saipan and hope to dive alot. All my diving will be in warm water (here, Guam and Palau). I will wear a 3mm wetsuit. What BC should I get? Thanks in advance.

Maybe if you had filled out your profile a little more and posted in some other threads before coming here right now with this question on your very first post.

There are only a handful of subjects that can produce the passionate responses and sometimes unfriendly exchange that this one has in the past.

Does the term sock monkey mean anything to you?

It has been discussed and you will start getting the Back Plate/Wing crowd shortly as well. I personally like Scuba Pro Knighthawk as it fits great and does not ride up at the surface or require a crotch strap. I've owned a variety of Mares in the past including the Icon and they always seem to ride up while at the surface. I hated the Icon. The tank just never sat right. I also have a Zeagle Stiletto. A nice BCD for warm water but the Knighthawk still gets my pick.

What is available in your area? I tend to order things in while visiting the US as it is much cheaper than buying kit in Thailand. This may be a consideration for you as well. Oceanic has a nice knighthawkish style BCD as well as others. Its that particular style I like, back inflate with integrated weight combined with D rings in the right spots. Hope this helps.

Good luck and safe diving,

No, it does not.

.....what is your budget ? (in US $ ) ...what brands of gear are available to you locally, as there's no point in recommending BCs from brands you can't afford or are not available to you brand-wise ? ...are you male or female ?

I would like to stay around $500, there are limited options locally, so I will probably order online. I am a male, 5'11, 190 lbs.

I would like something that I don't need to replace any time soon. The BP/W seems to be the best for a long time, but it also seems that alot of people that use them are using drysuits in colder water.

So far I am looking at going for either a Zeagle Ranger or the BP/W.

Well, the DSS BP/W with a Kydex backplate and LCD-20 wing sells for $460. It might be worth you time to discuss it with Tobin at DSS either by phone or email.

For the warm water diver there are a lot of choices including integrated weight system BCs.

When I dove in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, I didn't wear a wetsuit so I just carried about 6# of weight with an Al 80 tank.

Not to mention the 17lb tropical wing from DSS. If my LCD 30 wasn't already small enough to fit in a pocket I'd be all over that one! The kydex plate is also really really nice!

Dude, go away!

Thanks, I emailed DSS today. Also did some more research on DSS and really like what their customer say about them. I also added some info to my profile! I haven't posted on any other thread since I don't feel like I know enough to add to any diving conversation. Thanks for the help
