I thought I had done thorough research before buying my gear, but I never thought about dive computer compatibility with my Macs. So now I have a Mission Puck wrist with about 18 dives logged and apparently no way to download them. A friend downloaded my dives on his PC using his USB cable, but I can't make any sense of the data since I don't have Access. I tried importing them into Excel using the Actual driver, but really, how much time do I want to spend on this?

What should I do at this point? Buy a Reefnet Sensus? I could kick myself because my LDS had a Uwatec Aladin for the same price as the Puck.

Google leads me to believe that a "Mission Puck" is a Mares.
Looking at MacDive - Devices it say Macdive supports Mares "Puck" and "Nemo" models (DRAK interface only).

I don't know if that's directly applicable to your model, but thought I'd bring it to your attention. Also, the author seems to be actively expanding support if you can provide data samples, so if it's not there already, maybe you still have a path forward.

Yes, it's a Mares. Sorry I didn't put that in my post. Thanks so much for the link. I searched Google but couldn't come up with anything.

I downloaded the app, and now I just need to borrow my friend's cable and see if the Puck will talk to the Mac . . . and make sense.

I use Apple's Bootcamp along with VMWare's Fusion so I can run any Windows application. If you don't want to spend the money on Fusion, you can still use Bootcamp (free program) to create a Windows environment, then whenever you want to download your dives, you reboot your Mac into Windows and download from your dive computer. Not the best solution, but it works for me.

I use two - a Genesis React Pro and an Aeris Elite T3. The software for both is a bit buggy, but it is that way for a lot of people as you can see if you search this web site. Booting the Mac via Bootcamp puts it in native Windows mode (as long as your Mac has the Intel processor versus the PowerPC ones), so it is no different than an actual Windows computer.

Hope this helps.

Jim

Jim, what dive computer do you use?

Hi everyone. I am a newbie on the scubaboard and I have the same problem. Passionate Mac user with a Mares 'Puck'. Both are great - but they don't work together yet. MacDive 1.5.2 is free (donation ware) software, which apparently offers support for the Mares Puck. Their website refers to a driver download: "Try the CP210x driver from here:  The forum does not allow me to post the URL - try google instead :idk:
Have downloaded and installed the driver, but it is still not working. The driver shows up in my system prefs > Network as CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller. To configure the driver a telephone numbers, account name and password is required...

Have no idea what to do from here...

Has anyone made the Puck work on a Mac with MacDive? Would you mind sharing your driver (+ configuration)???

Thanks heaps!

I don't have the Mares Puck, but I am a Mac user who is familiar with MacDive.

I think you downloaded/installed the wrong driver. You installed CP2102. The MacDive website recommends installing the CP210x driver.

Try the following:
  1. Make sure that you are using the official Mares DRAK USB interface.
  2. Download and install the CP210x VCP Mac OSX Driver. There's a pull-down menu under the "Software Downloads" section on the righthand side of this webpage.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Ensure that your computer is recognizing the download cable by opening "System Profiler" (located in the Utilities folder) and select Hardware/USB. When the cable is plugged into one of your USB ports, the cable should appear as "CP210x cable" or "Silicon Labs USB to UART bridge."
  5. Load up MacDive, connect your dive computer, make sure that the dive computer is switched to the proper "download" setting, and then attempt to download your dives.

Bear in mind that I do not have your computer and Mares puck to try this out. I suspect that after you install the proper driver...it will just work.

Good luck and let us know how it goes...

I'm going to try it again today and will report back. I haven't had a chance to try it since I downloaded the driver, but I'm diving today with the friend with the drak cable.
