YS110 strobe diffuser or no diffuser?

Do you shoot with the diffuser on or off? I admit I just found out the thing is removable.

I've done 20 dives with the diffuser on all this time.

Leave it on all the time, leave it off? Pick and choose? Why would you use it or not use it? Rule of thumb?

You lighting is a main source of your creativity and differentiation in underwater photography, so imho you should try to understand what diffusers do, how they affect your light and don't necessary light subjects like everyone else does

To answer your question, I usually have mine on.

Good article about lighting! It should provide Mike with sufficient background to decide when he wants to use the diffuser.

All the reasons are in Scott's article. Normally I work without the diffuser except when I shoot with a wide angle lens without sufficient ambient light (larger angle to cover) and when shooting macro (softer light). Don't forget to compensate with a larger opening for the slight reduction in output when using the diffuser.
So now you have two preferences. Best is to find out what works for you. Shoot a few dives without the diffuser and compare your results.

Last time I shot some soft-coral (wide-angle) without my diffusers, I remember I really liked the results.

Questions??? For some reasons my shots are now overexposed 1 to 1/1/2 stops while on TTL thru my G-10 (S&S 110 strobe) Is there a manual overide to dial down the output? Nothing in the manual Thanks

I thought the dial on the right side turned down the output.

Have you checked to see where your mode dial is pointing?
If its properly set in TTL (not accidentally moved to manual 1 or 2), you may also need to
check the optical fibre link for damages.

no. As I understand it once in TTL it's locked. The only Change to be is exposure control in the camera to change f stop

Oops. Thanks for letting me know. Shows how dependent I've been on the strobe, and never had to change modes.
