Scuba.com is in Irvine. The OP might just be able to return in to scuba.com they are fairly reasonable.

Sometimes the lenses got damaged due to shock in shipping.

Surely, the logical (and ethical) initial response by Mark, as the original purchaser and holder of the sales receipt, would have been to offer to contact scuba.com and/or Sea & Sea? His (in my opinion disgraceful) refusal to accept any responsibility has led to his suffering a devastating blow to his reputation on these boards and, probably, inability to ever sell anything here again, not something I would want to risk.

No doubt.

The facts are that an item sold as "new in open box" was found to be not working by the purchaser. Yes this is subject to some debate, perhaps the seller DID open the box, try out the camera with other batteries, found it to be defective and tried to pull something, or maybe the buyer damaged the camera in some way. But let's go with the most likely scenario that there's no foul play.

A reasonably ethical seller would have said "Sorry you have a problem, let's work together to get this thing fixed to our mutual satisfaction". That would at the very least involve the seller providing any needed paperwork, better yet would be the seller contacting the dealer from whom he bought the camera initially, best yet would be the seller taking back the camera and getting it fixed under the warranty that he knew was in existence and then reselling it.

But Mark aka Scubagreg basically said "Screw you it's not my problem" until he got some heat from fellow ScubaBoard members and only then did he scramble to find the receipt.

This says a lot more about this guy Mark as a person then his customer service abilities.

Thankfully he's the exception and not the rule.

Unfortunately, there is really no harm to his (ScubaDiverGreg) reputation... All he will do is open up another account as "BobTheScubaDiver" and someone else will run into this same problem!!!

That's why its buyer beware and it is best to buy locally if you can...!

Again; just a name change... no damage has been done to SDG, and that is unfortunate!!! :furious:

Just my opinion,

lee

Yeah but it's his attitude, ethics, and consideration for whomever Mark works with going forward that is what's at play here.

Mark will continue to do the same things to other people, and it will adversely affect his success in life.

The negative trader rating and ruined reputation that is tied to that one particular ID is just a symptom of a greater problem that will haunt Mark for the rest of his natural life, whether he realizes or not. He probably won't. He'll pat himself on the back every time he wins the battle, but he'll never acknowledge that he's losing the war.

Karma's a bitch

So much to say.......Greg (or Mark???), I will buy from you. But then I am close to you and can hunt ya down if it is faulty :D. Just kidding. What time frame lapsed from purchase to notification of problem? Sorry if this has been said but my brain has gone mushy after reading all these posts.

I believe I would agree... Problem is; means little to me if I was the one that came out with the short end of the stick. Means even less to me since I don't even know this guy but I do know one thing; I sleep well at night!!!

Well, maybe not so well but I do get some sleep most nights... Maybe this is just microcosm of whats wrong with people today. Its all about ME!!! Selfishness, not worrying about or helping anyone else but yourself... Stopping here before it gets started!!!

Please tell me you didn't buy the scanner from Mark too.

Actually I think it was the seller (Mark/Greg) whose scanner isn't working otherwise it doesn't make any sense. Or maybe I was too deep too long on Saturday.

Perhaps the ethical thing to do, as you probably well know, is to return the money and keep the receipt..If you get the camera replaced then you can really advertise a "new" one in the unopened box...
