I would suggest either Jack's or Big Island Divers...they are both right in Kona and are well-established professional operations. Both of them do the night Manta dive, which is well worth it. Kohala Divers is good for up the coast, and it's an easy drive [under an hour] from Kona, although you have to get up early to be there for their 7:30 start time...

Shore diving and snorkeling aren't too great at the easily accessed beaches in the area. If you want to do this, a 4WD rental would be an excellent idea...you can get to less busy, more interesting places that way. This is what I plan to do on my next visit.

What does everyone have against Kona Honu Divers? We had a wonderful experience with them. (Just curious).

What makes you ask this question? Which everyone has expressed anything against them?

I just find it odd that nobody has any comment on them.

I just did a search for Kona Honu Divers and came up with 101 threads. I just find it odd that you think no one has any comment on them. :idk:

Keller Laros with Jack's Dive Locker is the MAN when it comes to diving with the Manta's. He is the one that first started to name them and catagorize them by thier markings from the bottom of the Manta's. Order the video ahead before the dive and he'll make sure you are in all the shots. 100+ Manta dives under my belt and I still love this dive...

Hey scubaman my wife and I have a 4yr old as well, thankfully the grandparents came along to maui and kona so we had child care while we went diving!!

On maui we have used ed robinson's diving. Great dive op that goes out with smaller groups (4-8 divers) really caters to what the divers want to see/do. Dive sites: molokini, and red hill - puu olai.

On kona we used big island divers. We really had a great time with this dive op. They have great staff that are very knowledgable. We did 10 dives with them, I'd suggest you ask to do the following dives: golden arches, pipe dreams, au-au canyon, driftwood and of course the manta night dive!!!

Enjoy your diving!!!

Unfortunately, we couldn't get any of the grandparents to come, So I told my wife no diving for her. just kidding. We will take turns.
Thanks for the dive site advice. Since I have never been there, I am a little nervous on what to expect.
Thanks again.
