If it's that big of a worry and you're right on the NDL edge, then just do a controlled ascent while exhaling (similar to a CESA) until you just have to take a breath. By the time you need to breath off of the pony, you might be at your safety stop depth and you won't have a problem. If you just have to hit the pony at depth prior to doing your ascent, well, that's life. And as previously stated, it's probably not that big of a deal anyway. You're going to be there so briefly that it just isn't going to put you in a bind that a few hours on the surface won't take care of.

I know you're just thinking hypothetically, and I've never pushed this, but if you'e at 130' on 32% EAN you're already dead. Or am I wrong on this, too.

I know this has nothing to do with ascent rate, but hey.........

/sigh

Is this an April fool's post or what? He has 30 cu-ft of air, way more than he needs to ascend, why the hell would he do something so stressful?

If I were doing the ascent, i would probably come up 60 feet per minutes for 30-40 feet, then I'm at 90 or 100 feet in only 30 seconds then do a slow ascent from 100 to 50 feet in a couple of minutes, chill at 50 feet for 2 minutes and then slowly ascend to 20 feet for a couple more. NOT A BIG DEAL.

Wow! Truly amazing.

After surfacing, I would check Neptune's C-cards. He shouldn't have been spearing you unless he has the required specialties.

thank you peter you are rite a normal ascent, dont over think the hypo your out of gas at 130 ascend and switch to pony in a sport con fig your pony should be breathable at you max depth on this hypo air is ok the big issue is what got you to that point fix that first . and a mod of 1.6 your not ( dead) just teasing the reeper whats the rittle me this just for fun whats the ppo2 21% at 210 for 35 min bottom time(this is a dive we did in chukk and were not dead or bent) lol
enjoy this and have fun kicking me around and as your mom
says dont do as I do
do as I say and dive safe a 1.4 is a good plan.

I'd be interested to hear peoples thoughts on a hypothetical situation I was considering on the way to work this morning.

Imagine I'm cruising along at the end of my 130' dive on 32%. I'm within my NDL and dive plan as I reach the ascent line. Just then, Neptune appears, decides he hates me, and puts his trident through my back gas. Luckily, I have my handy 30 cu ft pony full of air, so I start my ascent using that.

The question is, what is my ascent schedule? I was planning on using nitrox to ascend, but now I'm on air at 130 ft.. My computer doesn't know what I'm breathing (nor even if I'm breathing). So I'm breathing more nitrogen and less oxygen than I had planned on as I ascend.

My instinct, based on no information or knowledge, would be something like this:

130 -> 70 @ 30 ft/min
70 - 1 min stop
70 -> 50 @ 30 ft / min
50 - 1 min stop
40 - 1 min stop
30 - 1 min stop
20 - 5 min stop or breathe it down to about 300 psi, whichever comes first.
Done diving for the day

So, do I have a lovely case of DCS, or shall I crack open a beer and have a cigar?

thanks,
dave.

why not do the 130-70 at 60 per minute isnt that the current guidance with 30 per min above 60 ft. perobably stay at 70 for 3-5 with the saved air and go to safety stop and surface for the beer and cigar. or am i missing something

Why does everybody think this? It's nonsense. One breath of Nitrox at depth below the MOD is not going to kill you. Not even close. Besides, he's going to his pony. He's going to be below the MOD for about 5 seconds. Not nearly enough to bring on OxTox.

I can't figure out why everyone make such a big deal out of "What's in your pony?" It doesn't matter (unless it's a stage bottle, which isn't a "pony"). Going to pony = head up now. MOD isn't a huge concern here.

Just by chance... have you ever seen a seizure? now if you have .. were they underwater? and if they were... did they survive?

I have seen seizures and don't plan my dive over 1.4 so that if in an emergency I go to 1.6 for a short while i will reduce my chances of a seizure. I know a commercial diver that has been on 100 percent to sixty feet......

but he was in a chamber after a dive on the way up from like 300ft probably. flip of the switch his FiO2 could be changed in seconds. by the way this amazes me after hearing this story.. have you heard anything like this?
