My son and I are going to Bonne Terre Mine next weekend with a bunch from a dive shop in Ann Arbor Mich. It is approx. 50 miles South of St. Louis, Missouri. It is an abandened lead mine and according to their website consists of 80 acres of undergroung lakes. It sounds like a fun dive to me-even though when I was first asked to dive an old leadmine it sounded questionable. I was wondering if anyone has gone ,and if they had, what they thought of it Thanks Tom

Hi one question is diving in a lead mine bad for you?
I thought lead was poisonous. This could be a dumb question
but thats how you learn stuff right!
thanks Rick L

Not to be a niggler here...

But wouldn't a dive in Bonne Terre be technically in an overhead environement (e.g. a cave) and should require all appropriate training and redudant equipment?

I got the impression it is underground but the majority of it still had a surface in which a kayak followed the group as a safety measure.

THAT, looks like a fun dive.

My main concern is the thickness of wetsuits you wear. Please let us/me know what the majority of people wear there and what the rental situation is. I have a 5mm suit and a 3mmvest/5mm hood which I think would work but would want to rent a 7mm if needed.

I already have the wheels clicking on that one.

Tommy
