I would go with the Instructor that makes you feel the most at ease and can answer your questions. You should feel comfortable with your instructor and your OW class will go alot smoother

Yes ... until you reach the "pro" ranks, crossover is as simple as signing up for some other agency's next class.

BTW - SSI doesn't call it "divemaster" ... they call it "dive con". Means the same thing, though ...

actually SSI dose have a seperate Divemaster and a Asst Course....the DiveCon is actually the 2 of them merged together in the road to becoming a Open water intrustor with SSI the DiveCon is the step before OWI

I wonder if that was true five and a half years ago when the post you are responding to was written :p

I've read that both are recognized basically anywhere for booking charters, getting air fills, etc. The one big advantage that I see with PADI is there are way more shops worldwide should you decide to "go pro".

It was not.

Three instructors and their students are on board a dive boat
in the middle of the ocean. There is a NAUI instructor, a PADI
instructor, and an SSI instructor. Everything is going fine until
the boat springs a leak and starts to sink. The SSI instructor
says to his students, "Okay, we're in the middle of the ocean,
so we might as well do our deep dive." The NAUI instructor
says to his students, "Okay, we might as well do our
navigation dive, so let's get our compasses out and swim
towards shore." The PADI instructor says to his
students, "Okay, for $25 extra you guys get to do a wreck
dive!"

LOL just wanted to lighten up the atmosphere.

I've added a couple NSS-CDS cards since this was taken ... hope to have another one to toss in the drawer by this time next week ... (class starts on Monday) ...

Hey, where can I get one of those flashy silver cards with a Y on it??

And a REMO instructor! Can you tell me how to use one? I've got two in the dive locker that I'm clueless about. Although thoughts of a homebuilt rebreather have crossed my mind... Does it matter how old the EAC is?
