I have been on Lisinopril 4 several years now. Started with 10mg twice a day, now I cut it 2 5mg once a day but never had a cough problem. Lost 25lbs and changed my diet and it seemed 2 make a big differance. Exercise more also made a big difference. Walking 3 miles every other day also helped.
I think I'm about to turn 48 now and have been diving on Lisinopril since I was 25, this includes 2 decades as a Navy Diver. At one point, in recent years I was also on vytorin and metformin. I never had trouble with the meds, it was the fat that was my trouble. Now on my way back to 200 lbs most of the meds are history and all is good.
Hey deepdiver that is great. I am about 2 reach the 200lb. mark myself. It was the extra weight. I even use less lead when diving. Fat floats. Walking 3 miles every other day also helped with my blood pressure. Just an FYI info.
I developed some mild hypertension a few years back(I'm now 63) and my doc put me on Cozaar, which now has the generic equivalent Losarten. They're ARBs(angiotensin receptor blockers), which work on the same pathway at a different location than the ACE inhibitors. It works for me and has never caused any issues that I know about.
I also had hypertension with my high blood pressure, high colesterol, high trigliserides, eveything that was bad I had high numbers all the good were low numbers. I changed my diet and exercised more. Now I just take 5mg Lisinapril 4 blood pressure. I'm 67 and still diving. And don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
I've had HP for a while now. I also take Lisinopril it lowers it some but it's still higher than the doc would like. I tried 6 other kinds of meds and they all made me sick, Lisinopril is the only one I can tolerate and it doesn't help that much. I still dive, when God wants me to stop he'll let me know, for now I'd rather enjoy living than worry about dying.
Individual reports are just anecdotal of course, but for the record, I've been using Micardis/telmisartan for several years, diving all the while. No ill effects noted while diving, nor any topside either, works great for me and keeps the BP well under control.
I had a coughing fit today while pool diving. This was not due to the BP meds it was me being a dork and playing around. I ended up inhaling a bit of water and it threw me into as severe a coughing fit as Ive ever had.
I did fine, did not have to surface and it was not as bad as I thought it would be to deal with.
If you're wondering what I was doing, I was playing with a balloon and had been inflating it. I inhaled the water after reinserting my reg into my mouth. I only have feeling in part of the right side of my face and had not gotten the seal around the reg 100%.

Did you have a stroke?
I am asking because I had one on March 20 and am in rehab.
I should be cleared for diving next month. If you did have a stroke, I was wondering what your doctor said about it and diving.

Im not quite sure if its the high dose of neurontin of if the coating of the nerve is now nearly gone but the effect is most of the right side of my face is numb. It has not caused bell's Palsy as of yet though. The only problem it causes with diving is I have to be very careful about getting the seal around the reg on the right side. Once in a while I don't quite get it and end up sucking in a bit of water but I usually am pretty good about achieving the seal correctly on entry to the water.
LOL,my very 1st thought when they told me what was going to happen was if I would be able to dive again. I went home and did not research the illness, but looked into full face masks. Thankfully I have not needed one and am doing well.
