I dive in Monterey with an MK3 undergarment. I will be going on a trip to Southern California and I think that an MK2 undergarment will be sufficient there. How many pounds should I shed by going from the MK3 to the MK2? I will certainly need to fine tune but wanted to know an approximate starting point.
Thanks

I shed roughly 12 lbs when making the switch from the mk3 to the mk2, however, the 12 lbs taken off also includes the removal of the mk0 undergarment as well.

I was thinking of doing the opposite... Going to the Mk3 from the 2.. From what weaserman says, should I expect to add 12 lbs of lead?? I'm already at 40 lbs now!! I think I'll stay cold...

Hey guys, personally when I go from a MK2 to a MK3 I usally add 4-5lbs. But when switching over I also remove my MK1 that I wear underneath the MK2. But saying this personal physiology is different from person to person, weighting it seems is can be an ongoing experiment, some people like to be extremly heavy, some don't. Find what works for you, it's all about that happy medium between being warm and not hauling to much lead.
Cheers Doug,

That's pretty much the same for me, 3-5 lbs, depending on other gear and undergarments.

I tried my MK2 on my trip to the Channel Islands and I ended up shedding 10lbs of lead compared to my MK3, everything else being the same.

Down here in SoCal I dive the MK2 year-round. When the water is colder than I like, I wear a long-sleeve underarmor shirt under the MK2 - makes a HUGE difference and no weight change at all. Don't own a MK3 - so can't really speak to the difference....

Well -- I dove the MK2 last summer in SoCal with no problems. If I was cold, I'd put on a patagonia capalene base-layer and if it was really warm -- I'd only wear the baselayer. Average temps in the 60s, probably 62-68 with a day or so that may have hit 70. I might drop 2-4lbs diving with just the shell and baselayer.

In Carmel yesterday I wore the MK2 and was initially surprised at how cold it was, then I just added more air and was largely fine. If I inverted, etc I'd get cold spots and know it right away. I thought if I had worn the Mk2 jacket, it'd have been OK. Bottom temp was around 48.

My buddy dove an Mk3 and was perfectly fine.

I'm pretty sure that the Mk2, with jacket and some good long underwear -- you'll be fine all over CA.
