They chose to become part of the cleanup effort created by BP rather than turn away.
Just my opinion.

You act like their decision is some huge humanitarian thing. They are not cleaning anything. They are getting paid to be a floating dorm room. They ditched paying customers for more money. I'm glad I didn't have anything booked so far. They will not see anymore of my money, I know that.

I said they are part of the cleanup effort, which requires a huge amount of resources be it a floating dorm, a cleanup vessal, or whatever is needed. You make it sound as if they are just sucking up money for no apparent reason. They made a business decision just as it is your choice on how you spend your money. When they cancel trips due to weather for safety reasons, do you fault them? They choose to participate in the cleanup effort at the expense of their dive business, I just wish that the complainers on this thread would respect their decision to assist in the effort rather than bash them around. Your efforts should be put toward holding BP accountable and not beating up on one of our own homegrown small businesses affected by the negligence of a large overseas business that was unprepared for such a catastrophy despite the early warnings they were aware of such a potential disaster.

Why not come dive the Texas Clipper, the rigs and the wrecks around South Padre Island. I am sure once the spill is cleaned up the Fling will resume normal operations. Take the opportunity to dive South Padre this year and head back to the FG next. Two people can do two days of 2-tank diving on the Clipper and/or a rig and get 2 nights at a nice hotel one block from the beach for under $300 each. I'm finalizing details, but will have them up on the American Diving homepage when I do.

Edit: two days of diving = $300;
2 nights hotel $150/night x 2 weekday nights = $300;
so actually it is $450 per diver. Each item, diving and hotel can be had for less in larger groups.

Sorry to highjack this thread. I do not mean to turn this into a commercial. I appreciate the efforts and the decision that the Fling owners had to make. If the shoe was on my foot, I would have done the same thing. Hopefully their efforts and the efforts of all those involved in containing the spill are successful and we are able to continue to enjoy diving the Gulf.

I look at your price list and don't see how that is possible. I'm looking forward to seeing the details.

Sorry your trip was cancelled...This business decision on their part will not keep me from diving the Flower Gardens someday...I want to dance with the Hammerheads!

This is the whole reason any business is started---to make monies and increase profits. The Flower Gardens are not the only thing to explore on our Texas coast. Grow up and stop your whining--gee!

No whining allowed in scuba...

I have read and re-read all of the post regarding the cancellation of the chartered dives on the Fling, and YES I am pissed that they chose to work on assisting with cleaning up the spill, mainly because this was my first FG trip, and it was one of the ONLY times my buddies and I have ever been able to all have off at the same time for something like this. But I DO understand what it means to be forced to make the right choice to survive. I am pissed at BP even more so for causing this knowing it had the potential to happen, and more so for not using the billions they make to have a plan B,C, D, and E in case this event did happen. Fling owners/crew, I'm mad but I understand you guys have to make a living, and what's done is done. I wouldn't go as far as broadcasting that you make more money helping with the clean up because it might give some of your customers the idea that you don't give a damn about them or the inconvenience this might have caused them (just a thought). I hope this helps you keep your head above water, and in business, as I have heard nothing but good about you guys prior to this.

I am surprised and ashamed of everyone of you "me,me, me" people. You are missing a freaking dive trip while others have lost their entire livelihood. So the Fling decided to help out by providing bunks for clean up crews. At least they are contributing. I am sure they would much rather be running your trip then providing this service but environmental disasters happen. The "oil is not going to get to FG" crowd better pray a hurricane doesn't come barreling in and push this disaster west in the gulf. FG will be toast. Then what would the Fling do? Oh I am sure we would get the "Shame about the Flower Gardens and the Fling losing their business" thread and the "I guess I'm diving Mexico the next decade". thread. I believe a little support is warranted here not condemnation.
