It happened to me many years ago in Key Largo due to rough sea, diesel fumes and my breakfast selection. I though I would feel better off the boat and under the water. Not a chance.
Hold in place, let it rip, wait until your done, swap regs, rinse out big chunks, watch fish show, swap back and repeat as needed.

Just a note on technique: consciously and forcefully expelling the vomit into your regulator seems to work well. Once you're done you'll probably feel better, at which point removing the regulator and swishing it around might help, but keep it in your mouth while vomiting and in the immediate aftermath.

Do what everyone says..............Puke right in it. I like the idea of having your octopus ready, so you can give your primary a good rinse. Just stay cool, puke, and pick up your octo if you need it.

Don't forget, engineers had to think about this when designing their regulators.

That is why you should always chew your food well! Throw up through it and go on about your business, but let the guys with the camera know so they can get good shots:wink: No bad taste or smell since your nose is sealed in your mask and not much taste as well do to the same thing:) If you were a good boy or girl I see no reason to remove it as each exhale will wash water and air through the exhaust. Been there done that:wink:

The thought of vomiting into your regulator may sound unpleasant and a bit daunting but it is something that can be done safely. Just remember to:

  • Hold the reg in place in your mouth with your hand
  • Clear the reg afterwards by pressing the purge button (this may not be necessary depending on what went through it)
Once done with the dive, clean the reg thoroughly with water.

If you are vomiting repeatedly or feel ill, it's best to end the dive. And if you are feeling ill prior to the dive, you might want to seriously consider sitting it out. The vomiting may be an symptom of something a bit more serious than minor seasickness.

How about an out of air drill right before throwing up? That way you are puking into your buddies reg! :crafty:

:rofl3: Remind me not to be that buddy :shakehead:!

I'm pretty sure this is a calculated bit of information (not necessarily misinformation) designed to sell gear to OW students. I mean, the moment I realized the rental regs I was using may have been hurled through... I bought my own on the spot!

I'll chime in as another who has done the regulator chum. Twice. The first time I was a bit frightened, because it's one thing to be told it will work, and another to know it will work. The second time was no big deal, and as mentioned by others both resulted in a great fish show.

There's a question... think anybody intentionally chums just to get a show?

I guess I'll listen to mom's advice and chew my food well before swallowing. Just in case...
