I did't post here to get into a pissing contest about who has the most cards or the deepest dive, I love to talk diving and would love to do so over a beer.

Honestly it wouldn't matter, the sheriff has NO interest in any help, you could have built the dam and they wouldn't even talk to you about helping.

And like you and Bill, I would like to see the family get some closure to this.

Sometimes Law Enforcement just will not recognize when local talent exists because they are afraid of the liability of allowing people to help. It's very unfortunate. From what little I know of our local S&R volunteers, there is also some county-to-county rivalry to exacerbate the situation.

Do you and your group dive with a particular shop or dive op in the Phx area?

Yes, they can stop us from diving there, hopefully not forever, what is bad is that we will just have wait, I think for all those involved waiting is not good.

Jax, yes we dive out of a local shop, which shop really doesn't matter in an attempt to supress and attempt at "inter-shop"....... issues I guess. Those that do those dives know who we are and how to contact us. Again, it doesn't matter. One of our group approached the MCSO and he spoke to my friend like he was a 5th grader. Obviously not grasping the shear amount of experience this person had, quite a shame.

According to a friend (fellow diver) who has friends involved with the search -

His body has been located via ROV @260 feet and will be recovered later today. He states that this person was a rather novice diver but had no additional details about the incident to provide.

No additional information.

There was a post on the accidents part of this board that a friend of a friend who is involved in the search said they found him in 260ft and will recover later today. Anyone know this to be true of more rumors????

Well from a PSD diver point of view, most LE dive units will hold at a max depth of 130. If the victim is located well beyond that limit, they will most likely bring in an outside agency to do the recovery. Thats not to say that there are no local divers who could do it, its just that the liability of having someone dive on the call and something happening to them is too risky. The lawyers would have field day with all the issues in that one. A paid service salvage dive team is covered by their own policy so if the dive goes bad, the local state and county is not on the hook for a multi-million dollar law suit. I don't know much about the Sheriff Dive Unit there; however, I would be VERY suprised if they are capable of TRIMIX diving. No PSD dive units that I know of will do this type of recovery. Myself and another member of our unit do tech but we would not be allowed to do an actual recovery deeper than 130 because our department insurance would not cover it. Using an ROV is the only way to go in a search like this. Without a last seen point you would not have enough divers to do a search of this size. Once the victim is located its a simple straight down and out profile. No more than 10 minutes bottom time.

Update:

Apparently they have NOT found the body - it is the ROV that is being recovered @260.

Third hand info... will keep posted what I find out as it happens. Like a bad game of telephone.

There is an update on the other thread....they have NOT found him yet. Apparently the ROV is tangled.

They haven't found him yet. The ROV has gotten stuck several times. When they locate the body, the ROV will then use its clamp and bring him up to a depth that one of the sheriffs divers can go down to.
