Are there any shears that don't rust, period? Not on the blades and not on the pivot. Looking for something that is not disposable.

Anything made of titanium should work. Titanium doesn't rust at all, unlike stainless steel where even the high end alloys still rust a little----esp if you don't rinse and store them properly.

Most of the trauma shears we see out there today are stainless. It's the hinge pin that rusts.

Not yet unless it's made of titanium, ceramic or Spyderco's H1 steel (found a blade after about a month in the water with no rust - really had to clean the handle more than I did the blade). I usually grind the non stainless steel pivot out and replace it with a small stainless steel bolt and locking nut but the stainless will still rust if you don't rinse after the dive and hang out seperately to dry.

I tend to loose dive knives and shears, about one every year or so between myself and my sons. So although rust free might be nice, cheap works for me rather than Ti. If I use a little oil on them, the rusting process is sufficiently slow as to not be a big issue.

I have a fishing knife, not a dive knife. I think it's made with 308 Stainless Steel. Dive stainless steel is 316.
To solve the rust problem I coat it with silicone grease. This works great with the blade that remains inside the blade cover, but not for the exposed areas, where the silicone grease is removed by mechanical action.
However, the knife can be disassembled and I can grind the rusted areas.

Here is what I use. I got a pouch for mine and wear them on the waist webbing.
I got mine for $10.00 3 yrs. ago. All I do is rinse them and then dry them off when I'm done diving. Haven't seen a single spot of rust yet. They will slice right through wire up to 3/8" (that I've tested). Mono and rope (nylon, poly, manila) cut like butter. YMMV

Interesting. But is this all in fresh water?

Perhaps.

Not on the blades and not on the pivot. .

Sort of..

Looking for something that is not disposable.

Then you are not looking for a dive cutting tool hard enough. All tools are disposable. Both above and below water.

If you have not dropped it yet you are simply not trying hard enough.

I use $2 shears from CVS or OfficeMax. The blades don't seem to degrade, and although rust appears on the pin, I've always lost them before they came close to breaking. I often lose them doing weight belt drills. I know I left two pair on the Spiegel in five dives.
