Be Aware: KirkField Quarry

This is nothing more then a note to others about what I and others in my party were not aware of. No judgement or consensous is being solicited. I'm not concerned with changing the old mans mind. The man doesn't want dogs there and students have reported being locked out by the old guy for showing up late and have had to bribe their way in while he was locking the gate. Be aware. This is the purpose of the note.

For my part of things, I gravitate to those places where my wife can join in and she only joins in if she doesn't have to dive and she can bring and be with, her boys (Dogs) as pictured. Kirkfiled is not a "Feature rich" location so for us the only reason to go was because it was like a family picnic. Kirkfield went from being a nice family morning out to being a flooded junkyard.

The old man that is getting the waivers signed and collecting the money does not want to spend all day at the quarry doing this, I'm sure he has other (better?) things to do.

We stress to our students that they need to be on time and so far they never been more than 5-10 mins late. this has never cause us a problem.

Though the dogs is News, as one of our DMC has a dog he brings from time to time and it's never been an issue as it is very highly trained and well behaved.

Because she'll eat the husky's if they bother her I get Malinois #2 in the spring to even the odds... he'll be bigger than my female, but will be just as trained

I've never seen those gates locked and I dive there regularly in the summer, helping with classes etc. I've also seen other people's dogs there, and I would suggest that you will find people's litter on a more frequent basis than you will find dog poop.

Also, with respect to the gates, legally speaking, although I have never seen them locked, however, the access to this area is private and coming from a legal standpoint, he would be in some serious hot water if they were locked and an incident occurred, and he would also have ever legal right to ban dogs.

That being said the Husky's are no more of a "problem" than any other dog that goes there. I went to Innerkip once to sell some gear and was almost turned around because I had my Malinois with me. Needless to say, I'll never dive there, simply because of that.

Leaving your dog tied up and alone while you dive, is right up there with doing the same to your kids (and I've seen that too). If as someone mentioned, they have a non diving partner along and they clean up after the dogs, I'm OK with them, otherwise, people often have NO idea how their dog behaves when they're not in sight.

I can agree with everything you said.
I'm an activist for responsible dog ownership in Markham and have already been in a face to face with the Markham Ward 2 Counselor and the enforcement officer over such things. I’m actually very anal about it.
Although my dogs are inexpensive as dogs go, they're still kind of costly to me at over $2000 a piece not to mention the $3000 in Basic, Advanced OB and Shutzhund training for the shepherd and the sentimental value of course. Needless to say, I'm not tying that kind of value up to a bumper and leaving it unattended. Nor am I going to lock it up in a car to slow-cook for an hour. That’s just stupid!

The place was toted as a picnic type area were the family could go which included supervised animals. Giving the dogs an outing gave my wife a reason to tag along since the dogs never have unsupervised outings and gave the place a greater purpose then just diving. Training aside, we're firm believers in a 6 foot NON flexi leashes so it’s kind of hard for them to get into trouble on those.
All this having been said, once we discovered the guys feelings about dogs, that removed them and my wife’s reason for going and since I've already dove it 3 times now, I really don't need to dive it again anytime soon. When the fellow told me, "no dogs", I told him I didn't know and would post it for him on the boards so others wouldn't make the same mistake, and here it is. Let it be known everyone he doesn’t want your dogs there. Leave them at home!

Now I've been getting a lot of feedback about the level of training of the dog, lack of supervision, etc so.. I did attach a picture on the original post from that very day. These fellows have $3000+ in training from Basic & Advanced OB to Shutzhund not that a passerby would know this. They are on 6 foot leashes with a live human being on the other end of those leashes quietly reading a book, with a ready supply of poo-bags and zero tolerance for barking and digging (Otherwise, what’s the point of supervision?) and a healthy distain for off leash, unsupervised animals like the one that is allowed to roam there and has accosted her.
