Our board cannot (or does not) levy fines. About the only thing we have ever done is mow a lot and ask the homeowner to pay is back the amount we were charged, this was after asking the lot owner to take care of multiple times.

We are neighbors first and foremost.

Neighbors would just mow the guys yard. Maybe he was sick or working long hours. Bringing in someone to mow the grass and then charging the owner is a BS way of saying if you are too lazy, sick, or busy to cut the grass we'll make you pay.

Oh by the way we are too lazy to do it for you out of the goodness of our hearts as well.

My neighbor on one side is older but still active. Yet there are times when I know he's not feeling up to snuff so if I'm doing my yard I cut his as well. I'd never hire someone to run a lawn mower. My nephew does lawns and laughs at the idiots who will pay him 50 bucks to run the mower and weedwack and then they go to the gym for 2 hours for "exercise".

Send some stranger to my house to do anything and I'd have em arrested for trespassing.

Why not break the door down and send in a maid to clean the place as well. Same principle. You stay on your property I'll stay on mine.

I live in the county. Someone called codes enforcement on my neighbor about her grass because it was a few weeks past needing being mowed. I asked them about it and she said her mower was broken. So I mowed it for free. Our lots are about 3/4 and acre.

Neighbors help each other not because some board makes them but because it is what neighbors do.

I dislocated my shoulder and another neighbor took care of my yard for free for a whole summer. Another time, he was sick and I did the same for him.

You don't have to have a home owners association for people to take pride in their property and to maintain their property. Just find a neighborhood that is well kept and move in there. If it is already rundown, well you know that too before you buy.

Is Ruby Ridge near Canonsburg, PA?

Our neighbors tend to help each other where we can. But our HOA did cut one lawn in our neighborhood. It was owned by a bank that foreclosed on the owner and then refused to care for the property. But this should only happen where the deed restriction allow it to happen. If you buy such a piece of property, then you have given permission for this to occur so there is no issue with illegal trespassing.

No way to respond to this without it turning personal, which I won't do - forums are never a good place to discuss this stuff. Not my intent to offend anyone and will leave it at that.

Excuse me for asking a radical question that is not off-topic;

What has happened to the person that started this thread? I expected that we would get to read the clause(s) in the H.O.A. related to his 'problem'.

In theory, rules would be a good and unfortunately necessary thing, but usually don't work out that way in practice.

My experience is that HOAs only hurt those that follow the rules, and protect those that don't. They stop me from putting a screen door on, but only make a token fine on the people assembling assorted trash next door, whose dog craps everywhere. THe people next door don't change and I can't do what I want because I abide by rules. I told them to stop letting the dog crap in the yard, so they let it crap on the sidewalk in front of the school down the street and never pick it up. Unbelieveable.

What do your covenants say about screen doors and pets? Is your problem with the HOA or the covenants?
