Out of fuel....oe too little fuel to make any significant moves. Very little difference

File this under: "Never let the facts get in the way of a good story"

Sort of like saying that the Shonan Maru was found to be completely at fault for the incident when, in fact, both captains were found to share fault.

This is why Sea Shepards are actually bad for their cause... If they only told the truth about the illegal activities of the Japanese whaling fleet they would persuade more people to rally behind them. The problem now follows from the old story about the boy who cried wolf: Sea Shepards have zero credibility with all but extremists and bomb throwers - i.e., people who cannot sway policy.

Exactly. Completely misrepresenting the conclusions of the inquiry does not make for a trusted source. Just the opposite.

So, your not saying that the Ady was under full steam and purposely rammed the whaler now?

Well, at least, that is an improvement.

you posted this right after me. who are you replying to? I've not changed my statement.

Peter Bethune, New Zealand skipper of the Ady Gil said yesterday "They basically drove straight over the top of us and there was nothing we could do. We were all on top of the vessel except for one of the crew members who was inside. When they were about 50 metres away they suddenly veered to starboard and cut off the front three or four metres of my boat and sheared it in half. If anyone was in the forward sleeping quarters they would be dead."

well that's sorta true....

they were sitting on top of the Ady Gil and the Whaler did veer over to them. He got way too close in my opinion.

but then it's pretty clear that the Ady Gil applied power (as you can see in the video from the cavitation of their props) and cut under them. IF they were really trying to get away from the whaler, they would have put the engines/transmission in reverse and applied power.

It was a dumb ass move on both parties.

Still. At least two other posts (besides mine) have shown that the New Zealand Maritime Agency found BOTH parties at fault here. so... next time.... you might want to do a little better research.

Why don't they just trail them and document the amount of whales killed to make sure that they have not exceeded their agreed to, legal quota then provide that as proof rather than causing vandalism to an ocean going vessel? They are acting as judge, jury and executioner for something that they have absolutely no legal authority for.

 silly, silly.... that doesn't make for good publicity and TV ratings.

Watson's Guide for Environmental Tactics makes it clear that he doesn't let the truth get in the way of a good press release. His written instructions guarantee he has no credibility

“The nature of the mass media today is such that the truth is irrelevant. What is true and what is right to the general public is what is defined as true and right by the mass media. Ronald Reagan understood that the facts are not relevant. The media reported what he said as fact. Follow-up investigation was “old news.” A headline comment on Monday’s newspaper far outweighs the revelation of inaccuracy revealed in a small box inside the paper on Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Watson was explicit on this score: “If you do not know an answer, a fact, or a statistic, then simply follow the example of an American President and do as Ronald Reagan did—make it up on the spot and deliver the information confidently and without hesitation.”

Watson knows how to play the media, lazy journalists present his press releases as facts.

That was especially true when he claimed to have been shot by a Japanese sniper and that a bullet proof vest saved his life. :rofl3:

Soooooo, no news from the battle? Did anyone sink yet?
