James Cameron - Cave Diving Blockbuster 'Sanctum'

We're going to a special preview screening tonight.

Organised by the person/shop that co-ordinated the diving during the filming - cant wait!!

I went to the screening last night. Great flick, fun evening.

Yep very "Hollywood" at times but quite enjoyable.

Ordinary OW divers will probably be put off for life, cave divers will be shaking htere heads over some of it but all in all a well done film given the subject.

The trailer didn't seem like much of a cave diving diving movie but rather it appeared to be a dry cave exploration until the flood came.

It's called "sump" diving!

this might have already been adressed but i kinda skipped to the end to post

ok if they were just exploring a cave that suddenly flooded why did they happen to be lugging 100s of lbs of rebreathers and other diving equipment wouldnt that just be like the most over bearing stuff to be caring around while trying to jump around a nd climb in caves

still though it looks like a fun movie im excited to see it though i know cave diving is not like this lol

but i hope to be cave certified someday

Many dry caves have submerged parts, or sumps. Explorations like these are usually done in stages. The team had previously encountered aa sump and were planning on getting past it, thus the dive equipment.

I couldn't agree more! However it was overall very enjoyable

Well I viewed the movie tonight at the opening in Fort Wayne IN it was a hollywoodized version of cave exploration.
Most the gear looked great but some of the expectations of a cave diver viewing it were not necessarily met.
I can see why this would upset some real cavers but hopefully they understand the need for creative expression.

It was interesting to watch people come out of the movie, they were sort of freaked out by the unsettling nature of some of the life and death moments in the film.
They were horrified to learn that my buddies and I actually cave dive.
I quickly explained that is the real story all made it out alive and real cave diving is quite different.
They thanked me and still thought we were crazy!
So much for inspiring the untrained to rush out into an overhead!

Over all great suspense thriller and you were klinging to every last breath in the end.
Now for the real documentary on National Geographic! Reality is much better anyways!
