James Cameron - Cave Diving Blockbuster 'Sanctum'

I really did not like this movie and I am really bummed about this. This movie was not good and the more I read about it the more I realize it is not jut me who thinks so. Rotting tomatoes pretty much sums it up. The positive reviews are the ones that walked into it expecting a cheesy B movie.

I guess in the end I would have seen it anyway with the subject and name Cameron attached. Read some of the reviews and decide for yourself.

I am still bummed about how bad this movie was. It felt like a cheap rip off of 127 hours. They could have made a much more dramatic and powerful movie by keeping all of the actors on the loop and not talking!

Atleast the underwater cave portions were beautiful.

It was interesting to watch people come out of the movie, they were sort of freaked out by the unsettling nature of some of the life and death moments in the film.
They were horrified to learn that my buddies and I actually cave dive.
I quickly explained that is the real story all made it out alive and real cave diving is quite different.
They thanked me and still thought we were crazy!
So much for inspiring the untrained to rush out into an overhead!

I skipped work yesterday 'cuz I've been fighting a cold/sinus-lung infection for a week. Sitting in movies is a good way for me to pass time while sick (too sick to concentrate at work, but too bored to lay at home).

So I went at 11 am, and there were 5 other parties in the movie. I stayed through the bitter end of the credits. Yay, Ag!

I clapped when the dedication to Wes came on.

When they finally finished rolling, one couple behind me speculated that the lead character was fashioned after the guy who the movie was dedicated to. I turned around and explained who Wes was (briefly), talked about cave diving a short bit, then skeddaddled out of there. I was sick and not in the mood for extended chit chat.

(I tried not touching too much so I didn't spread too many germs, and I didn't cough more than about 3 times the whole movie through and wasn't sitting near anybody).

Squirrel girl I wonder how many non-diving / non-caving people will just be mislead or not understand the real idea of cave exploration.
I loved the shots of the cave it was beautiful!
My favorite was the push through the tight restriction where they pushed the Sentinel in front of them into the massive room with the air pocket above.
I found myself wishing I was there.
The following OOA emergency was a real kill joy for me.

I would see it again and probably purchase it when it gets to Walmart.
I buy ALL movies that have cave in them even if they are not REAL cave diving videos.
I then watch the features and hopefully the extras contain the real caving.
Kudos to AG and to Wes for the real cave exploration passion!

Squirrel girl I wonder how many non-diving / non-caving people will just be mislead or not understand the real idea of cave exploration.

I found huge parallels with the real thing. Sure there was some completely unrealistic stupid stuff (I could go on and on). But it's a blockbuster-style movie. What would anyone expect?

'Member "Independence Day"? I remember them drililng a well, trying to hit a depth in a nailbitingly short time, yet they didn't drill the well vertically--they went at about a 45° angle. Talk about setting yourself up for failure!

Don't most people who see blockbuster movies *know* there's a lot of stupid stuff in there? I heard a review yesterday that said the movie was Poseidon Adventure set in a cave. (It's been so many years I've completely forgotten that movie--just remember the title).

If you're a sump diver, you probably know nearly all that's real and what's fake. If you're a cave diver you know almost as much. A dry caver, pretty close behind. An openwater diver, starting to be a little more clueless. And the general public won't know what's real and what's not. EXCEPT, they know a lot is stupid. On the other hand, they'll have learned a few things.

Regardless I thought it was fun.

I'm in VA, it's 33° and raining. Lucky it didn't freeze. I got to see a movie in 3D (which gave me a headache).

I took my sons last night. Decent movie, great cinematography (of course).

First thing my youngest said when the first woman died. "How come they didn't have an alternate of some kind?" That's my boy!!!

I liked it alot, sure there were a few inaccurate things but overall it was pretty good.

As mentioned above "based on" and "inspired by" are different animals.
Also want to point out that Cameron is the producer, and the movie director is Alister Grierson.
Imho, IMDB current raiting 5.6 for Sanctum truely reflects its value.
