Stumbled across this site and thinking about buying a few titles to add to my diving library - I already have "Caverns Measureless..." & "BCD: A Blueprint..." are there any others in particular you would recommend?

Is "NSS Cave Diving Manual: An Overview" worth getting or should I get the full manual instead? Not planning to take any cave courses int he near future - there aren't really any caves where I dive regularly - just interested in the reading at this stage

Thanks

Speleobooks is a great company. I've know the owners personally for more than 10 years. Emily is an accomplished caver and so is her husband.

Cave diving books?

The Wookey Hole book is a nice history of early cave diving

The Darkness Beckons is a must, in my opinion

I would get the NSS full manual instead.

"Taming of the Slough" is an interesting read about the history of Peacock Springs. A little dry at times, but overall a good read. I have also read "Darkness Beckons". It was OK. Even though it is a history of cave diving, it seems to focus a lot on European cave diving history.

The NSS-CDS Cave Diving Manual is a little outdated, but it's still a good book. There's a lot of information in there that still applies today.

I've been looking for a copy of "The Darkness Beckons" - I have "Diving In Darkness" by the same author - but last time I looked the only one I found in stock was a 2nd-hand hardback on Amazon for $270  (I kid you not: Amazon.com: Darkness Beckons: The History and Development of Cave Diving (9780939748327): Martyn Farr: Books) so if you have any suggestions on where to get it at a slightly more reasonable price, please let me know!

That's because it's no longer in print. The only copy you'll get is a used one. That one has been listed on Amazon for years.

Yes, Marty Farr is a Brit. That's why US cave diving is classified as international in that book.

Am I missing something? The NSS bookstore doesn't seem to have their own Cave Diving Manual listed: NSS Bookstore

That's because it's an NSS-CDS book - NSS-CDS Cave Diving Manual. If you need any gear, you can get it at Cave Adventurers and combine shipping.

Thanks Rob

I found it new for $75 in Australia; the 2003 update edition. Probably NOS

That's because it's an NSS-CDS book...

Hmm.. The NSS bookstore has a cave diving section - the Cave Diving Manual Overview and other NSS-CDS books are listed there, but not the full manual for some reason; it's only in the Cave section that you linked

I found THIS one (Cave Diving Articles and Opinions) to be a good read. Lots of different points of view, some history, and good current information as well.

I have the class manuals from about half a dozen agencies, and if you are going to buy a manual, I thought the NAUI one was the best.
