Picked up a cool new tool recently: Eezycut Trilobite...

I was in my LDS today and told them to look into it. I told them if they will order some I will buy 1 or 2. If not I am ordering online. I want to support them when I can and if they can get close in price.

It looks like a nifty gadget, but is there anything (other than get past the TSA goons) that it can do that cannot be done with a properly sharpened knife?

Ever try cutting heavy monofilament with one hand? You really need shears or something like this to handle that. Also, cutting any line with a properly sharpened knife may expose gloves, fingers, drysuits, etc to unintentional cutting.

Frankly, if the monofilament were free-floating, it's unlikely I'd need to cut it one handed. And if I'm entangled, then the entanglement will secure the line and allow me to cut it one handed. And certainly I can slip the point of a knife into places one of these boxy gadgets will never fit. And I do carry EMT sheers, of course.
Your second point makes more sense. When I say "properly sharpened" I don't mean a blade you can shave with. I mean a blade that makes the hair jump off in fear when you shave with it. :D Any incidental contact with such a blade is certainly going to damage the gloves/fingers/suit/whatever. I'm one of those wimpy warm water vacation divers, so heavy gloves and such didn't enter my thinking.

Ultimately it comes down to the added utility of carrying one of these in ADDITION to a knife, not INSTEAD of...

I bought one in January. Nice solution to my need for a redundant cutting tool that was minimalist yet effective.

Wife bought me one in Feb for b'day. I like the small, compact size and replaceable blades.

How's the durability of the Eezycut? Anyone been diving with one for a while? I really like the design, as the longer exposed blade section looks like it would make cutting a cinch, and may even keep the blades sharper longer.
