.. By the way, love the setup you have, but those lens you have do not make good macro images.
OK. They may not be good, but I think they are OK.
I realize that the new macro lens will be even better and I will be trying that when available.
I do realize that little cameras can get nice macro.. here is one I took a few years back with a tiny canon SD700 in canon case with built in flash only.

Frank, What a lovely image..my guess is that you could take great images with either camera.

We all tend to take images that the gear we have works with, and then stretch the envelope for those "other" shots.

Most of my diving involves a boat trip way off shore and I'll have no idea what the conditions will be when we get there. Makes setting up with an SLR almost impossible. So I have suits with pockets in them and carry a wide angle and a super macro with me.

You can do macro with a dome port, just be prepared to buy a lot of domes (as scratching the doom is really easy to do in macro).

However, am gradually moving over to carry two camera's with me.. one macro and one scene, easy to do when driving to the dive spot, no so when going by air.

I still like camera's like this new Oly, because they allow people to take great underwater images and when teaching photography, I use what I recommend. They also allow someone to grow and learn.

I can afford to use any camera housing I want (I can easily demonstrate just how much my spending on camera gear no limits by the bag of canon L lenses I have). I will still pick using a camera like XZ-1 for the conditions I dive in...and recommend it for new people getting into UW photography. At your point in this, you are way past a beginner.

I do like this camera, but it seems overpriced at $600. For that money, I can buy a much more versatile used Olympus E-PL1s ($375, add housing about $500). After you add a housing and strobes, does it really have a size advantage? I guess I'm just being a contrarian, trying to resist another incursion to my bank account.

Hey, guys, I was just trying to talk myself out of buying this new toy. My year old E-PL1 camera is still great, but these new tech toys are fantastic. It sounds like housings for the xz1 will come in March, so I think I can wait that long. In the meantime, this is a great discussion. If only there weren't so many new temptations...

What kind of setup do you have with the PL1?

Dear Jun Lao,

Thank's a lot for posting your video. Unfortunately the music you used in the clip isn't allowed on youtube in Germany. So people in Germany cannot see your clip. I thought you should know. Of course I am curious to see how the camera performs in real life.
Any chance you could post the clip without music?

Greetings,
Daniel

Jun Lao,
Thanks for the video! It really looks awesome! Can you post any sample pictures if you can? Thanks!
