Thinking about a trip to Grand Turk. We have done T&C on a liveaboard and loved the diving and the experience. We have been diving Cozumel a few times a year for a while now and just want a change of venue. This resort looks nice but I cannot find many reviews. Any thoughts?? Other recomendations??

When are you thinking about going? I am booked there May 1st-9th so if its after that I can give you a review.

We were thinking in August. I will wait for your trip review. Have fun!!

Hello, I'm new here just registered and saw your post.
I just got certified in Grand Turk...I joined my fairly-experienced bro-in-law and nephew for a week of great diving two weeks ago. His first choice was to stay at Bohio, but they were booked with some groups and we stayed at Osprey Beach. We did visit for dinner on two nights so I can only speak to that and let others weigh in on the diving/rooms.

Dinners were were great, better food and service than other places. Dining room/bar is a very comfortable room with a wrap around enclosed porch. Also some tables outside on large deck which Im sure is popular at lunch. They had an island-wide power outage one night after a power station fire and the staff just moved kitchen out to a large grill and did a great job serving dinner by candlelight and flashlight.

The grounds looked great very well kept, and looked interesting to have the buildings with rooms away from common areas. Didn't see rooms though.

The beach looked great right in front, much nicer than in town. I really wanted to make it back to there to take a long walk on what looks like a great deserted beach N of there.

Most of the folks we saw there looked very happy to be there. There was a large group and this looks like a great place for a group, but I'd be very happy there solo or with wife.

I will say it is somewhat out-of-the-way, which can be a positive or negative depending on expectations. It's kind of out by itself next to the lagoon N of town. We enjoyed the long walk there before dinner one day and took cabs home.

Thank you for the information Mark. We are trying to decide to go here or to Little Cayman Beach Resort for a week in August.
Welcome to Scubaboard!!

Hello everyone. Joined Scuba-board today to join in on this discussion (also, it's nice to see a dive forum that appears to focus on diving :)

I'm booked to stay at Bohio for ten days beginning April 1st. The link below is from Trip Advisor and was very helpful in deciding to stay there. Early impressions in dealing with Bohio have been very favorable. They've been responsive and prefer email communication to keep everything clear. It seems the all inclusive package which includes breakfast and lunch is the way to go. It also includes airfare from Provo to Grand Turk and Bohio makes that reservation for you. I was a little bit nervous about the fact that the airline that handles that flight- T&C Air- won't necessarily put your baggage on the same flight you're on. Based on weight, they may bring bags on a later flight then taxi bags to your hotel. From what I read, this didn't seem like a big problem as far as bags getting to their owners in time to dive the next day.

I also like the idea of a five minute boat ride to many sites and surface intervals spent on the beach. That sounds like a blast to me. The only downside was the lack of shore diving. They say it's available but it looks like a 300 yard swim to closest dive site. With that said, I'm told the divemaster will take us out in afternoon and/or night so I think we'll get our dives in.

Grand Turk built a major cruise ship port recently and as far as I can tell, Bohio is far enough north of there to barely be affected. This is something I would pay attention to. Oasis Divers is right by the cruise port and does cater to cruise divers. I think Blue Water Divers may as well. My only concern with diving with these shops is the likelihood that you would get too many divers of differing skill levels and I imagine they bend over backwards to accomodate the cruise ship passengers possibly at the expense of guests of the local hotels. I liked the idea of diving on a small boat with four to eight divers without the stress of having to hurry to get people back to their ship before departure.

I'll continue to post updates.

Just a few things if I may clear up, since I was just there.
Oasis does have a part of their operation down South in the Jack's Shack bar/grill space that could service the cruise ships, but their main spot is in Cockburn town and I saw the morning dive groups gather there– none were cruisers. I finished my OW cert. with them and had what I thought was great 1-on-1 instruction.

Blue Water Divers is also "in town" and I dove with them the rest of the week. No cruise ship divers were there either, it was all the folks staying in town. FWIW, Grand Turk Divers is same deal, and all three had only small boats with about 5-8 divers each morning right off the beaches.

AT&C planes are small puddle jumpers (15-20? seats) and I could see it a possibility with full planes of divers with gear or vacationers that luggage hold-back could happen. On my flights there were no baggage issues on near-full planes of half vacationers, half locals that seemed to "commuting" to/form Provo. But I wouldn't sweat it since lots of flights each day.

Hope you enjoy Bohio and GT. Diving blew me away there and I'll be back.

Sugar in water how was your trip to Bohio?

I stayed at Bohio a few years ago. I do have a report on Trip Advisor and D2D, and also posted a report with Undercurrents. Kelly was running it then and it was an interesting experience.

At that time, the resort had nothing that was advertised on their web site. No gourmet chef who gave cooking classes, and no custom dive boats. One small dive boat with two bickering DM's was it. Shore diving was non-existent. The quality of the food at the restaurant was very good, but service was slow even by Caribbean standards. The food usually came out cold.

The rooms were basic, but clean and roomy enough. All bathrooms at that time stunk from sulphur. The grounds were clean and the beach was very nice. Kelly was very accommodating, and I did enjoy my stay there, but there was a general sense of disorganization that colored everything.

The diving was actually very good, and we heard Humpbacks singing on almost every dive. I just wish management had its act together more than they did when I was there. I hope that, by now, Bohio has finally figured things out and can offer a more consistent level of customer service. Nice beach location, adequate facility, good diving, and good food should amount to a much more positive experience than I had. Again, I did enjoy my stay there. It just could have been so much better ...
