OK. I have a really stupid question.

We are going to be spending a week in Yap and then 4 weeks in Palau. Based on our other trips, booze is usually very expensive in these locations. Therefore, we want to make the most of our duty free opportunities.

Therefore, can anyone help us with their experience?

We know that we can bring 2 bottles each into Yap and only one bottle into Palau. We'll be so busy in Yap that we won't drink very much there but we will have lots of free time in Palau and want to be well stocked.

Therefore our questions:
1.Does Continental allow you to carry on non-duty free liquids (booze) on the Yap to Palau flight? (we did this on the Tahiti to Bora Bora flights)
2. Is there duty free booze available in the Yap airport?

Thanks in advance,
Cottage

There is absolutely nothing in the Yap airport. They don't even have x-ray machines so they have to hand search your bags, both carry on and checked. No less than 6 different stations to check your passports. No shopping at all.

Actually I was surprised how cheap ETOH was in Palau. Chivas Regal was $35.95 for a large (1 litre) bottle which is $10.00 cheaper than here in Canada...the land of taxes. I remember that beer seemed very cheap as well so I would not be too concerned and there are quite a few stores that have ETOH for sale depending where you are staying. The main grocery store in town had the best selection and price that I saw. Selection might be your biggest issue.

Thank-you for your replies. We won't worry about duty free given the info about Palau.

In about an hour, we'll be heading to the airport.

We'll have a dive and a drink to you. (...in that order!)

Thanks again,

In case anyone else finds this thread, here is what I found in Yap & Palau....

diverken374 was correct. Booze in both Yap & Palau was surprisingly cheap. (Much cheaper than in Canada!). We bought 750ml McCormick vodka in Yap for about $8 and in Palau for about $14. It certainly wasn't worth attempting to get duty free before arriving.

By the way, we had a great time!
