Here (go all the way down) OLYMPUS PEN Lite E-PL3 they say that led lights for some reason work only with 14-42 Type 2 or 2R lens

If you look at the system chart that you posted you will see that the 14-42 lens is the ONLY lens suited to the housing & pory system. The 9-18 lens is NOT listed like it was with the first two PEN housings. I am sure this is a result of the 67mm opening on the port which would vignette with the 9-18 zoom. Instead Olympus has designed the port to work with the close-up and wide angle converters for the 14-42 lens, much like a consumer compact system. It remains to be seen if the port can be removed and replaced with the ZEN ports for the 8 fisheye, 7-14, 9-18 and 45 macro.

Sure, if you want to buy the entire new housing and the port comes off. Why would you want the new port? It appears from the photos of the housing that the on/off switch for the LED's is on the housing, not the port and you can already add the 67mm threads to your current port for much less than a new port would cost.

I totally agree with you! This looks like a consumer compact system (they clearly say in the press release that they aim at novice photgraphers who can not afford an external flash). It probably means that another more pro system will be coming later, the one that can accomodate different lenses including sceduled 50mm macro.

They actually had to give up a small bit of SNR and DR, to get the fast readout, for fast autofocus. A great trade off, in my experience.

Dear all, I’m new to Scubaboard, so far I find it very insightful.

In continuation to the thread, I'm considering buying the E-PL3 setup (Or E-PL2), combined with existing INON D2000 strobes.
As mentioned above in the thread, wide angle photography with the E-PL2 is achieved with the 9-18 mm lens while with the E-PL3, PTWC-01 wet lens should be used (no option to use the 9-18 mm lens).

1. Are there any significant differences regarding the expected quality using those two distinctive technics?
2. Which concept is more recommended operational wise (mounting, diving, ease of use, maintenance, cleaning)?
3. How do I actually mount the PTWC-01 on the housing? Can I still mount the PTWC-01 on the surface (dry environment)
4. Other useful tips before buying the gear and making the choice?

Although some answers can be found here: QUICK REVIEW: OLYMPUS PTWC-01 LENS FOR PT-050. IT I still appreciate first hand insight.
