I'm a Fish!
Well folks it's only two months (Sept. 15-18) to go before the the great Nor Cal Coast party & vintage gear bash at Albion. The event is being planned out by ZKY. Hopefully this might be the beginning of a annual vintage gear get together on the west coast. If any west coaster vintage divers are interested see below

Yep, mark it on your calenders!
Albion is up on one of the most beautiful sections of the California Coast. Mendocino is only a few miles north which features great shops, restaurants, and art galleries. In other words, there is plenty do do for your non diving significany other.
The campground is full service with good restrooms, showers, fish cleaning station, boat launch and overnight dock mooring, free wifi, restaurant, power and water in all the sites. What we do is not really considered camping by most peoples' standards, it's more glorified complete with a tiki bar, full commercial style kitchen, gourmet chefs, big commercial style barbecue, etc.
Some people pitch tents while others tow in trailers.
We have ten sites so far which should be more than plenty.
The only thing you have to pay is $10 per night per person, but we will have plenty of extra room for you to put up a small tent.
Bring some food - enough for yourself, this is a pot luck contribution style event.
Kitchen and barbecue are free to use anytime.
Surprise us with your favorite fresh seafood dish!
We each cook up what we bring and share it around. There is always sooo much food, combined what we bring with all the fresh seafood caught during the event.
Fresh abalone is always on the menu!
My goal this year is to get a monster lingcod using my double hose, and to freedive for a 10" ab.

Don't forget your Hawaiian shirt.

I've had my calendar marked in anticipation for some time now. I plan to pick up an ab card as I've always wanted to try ab diving but have been thwarted at every opportunity so far. I hope someone there would be willing to take me under his wing and show me the ropes on ab diving for my first time out. Can't wait!

No Problem, ain't nothin to it.
There is good abalone diving right in Albion cove in 10 to 15 feet of water.
Just bring some skin diving gear because as you probably know you can only free dive for them.
Set yourself up weight wise so you break neutral about 10 to 15 feet and you'll be all set.

Man I just found this thread. I will be talking the wife tomorrow about it.

Sure hope you can join us, the more the vintage gear divers the merrier. It is going to be a blast. :D

Man, this is going to be good!!

Eric, are there any communal provisions for rinsing gear, or should I bring my own wash tub? Any place to hang wetsuits to dry (tree branches, or?)?

If you bring a wash tub, can it become a communal provision for rinsing gear?

I'd be happy to share, but it is only a storage bin that fits in my trunk. I usually have to change the rinse water three or four times just to rinse my one set of gear, but if anyone else wants to use it too that's fine with me. I was wondering more if there might be a large basin at the camp grounds to help speed up the cleaning process, or if someone has brought one in the past.

Wash gear? There is a spigot although not positive there is a hose attached to it. I just wash gear at the end of the weekend once home. Same goes with flushing the motor.

Not sure I am allowed to attend this year since I am not a vintage diver  :eyebrow:

Hopefully it is as fun as years past.
