What about NASDS divers?

Good day all;
I took my first course through the Edison NJ skindiving school with Alex Bittman. (If you're old enough, or you know the back story, THAT name should get your attention in a hurry!) My instructor was Mike McGlynn, but I have no idea what ever happened to him after the
shop closed, and I would like to get in touch with him if possible. My Brother needs an affidavit (or something) that he took the course as he's lost his card and would like to transfer to another agency by taking a refresher course.

SSI people told him they have no records because the NASDS offices burned down, however the course was in 1980 so I think somebody there is either not being truthful, or else they need to learn their agency a little better. Has anyone ever needed to upgrade their
NASDS card to something else, and have they had any success?

This is a situation that happens all the time. Yes records are long gone.I was an NASDS instr in that time frame. If your brother kept up a log he has a chance. If he stayed active in diving a LDS would know him as a customer and can do something for him. In all honesty, if he has not stayed active and not dove in 10 years or more a good choice would be to take an ow course over.Alot has changed in gear/instruction and I am sure your brother has changed alot too.If he has stayed active in diving and a LDS recognizes this, then do not just do a refresher, get a pool evaluation by an instructor and do a advance ow course.It would be $$ best spent that way.

I was able to get a SSI cert with my old NASDS card and my log book. I now have a OW SSI card that reads diving since 1972 more than 1400 logged dives. Even though it's only OW that part hepls a lot.
