I like to hit up the frame sales at Michael's. They will occasionally get the 2:1 sales and you can find some really nice frames for great prices. Some acid free tape, a good print and a few minutes to frame it - your set. As for printing large format, I've had nice luck with Costco.

My wife and I took the electronic photo frame idea to a slightly higher level. We were at Costco one day, and noticed a closeout on a discontinued Panasonic 46 inch flat screen TV with an SD card slot and the ability to display slide shows. When you consider the cost of printing and framing multiple photos, not to mention that you eventually run out of room, this turned out to be a great solution for us. Our's now constantly displays several hundred above and under water shots.

i bought enough commercial matching frames which toned in with my decor to cover the wall next to the staircase, then i printed out my favourite photos on my inkjet printer. when i get a photo which makes me say 'WOW' i print it out & replace one of the photos already on the wall. There's always one which is starting to fade or i don't like as much as the new one, i can always print the ones i like out again to replace fading pictures.

i also have an electronic picture frame which some dear friends bought me for my mumble mumble birthday this i use to display a slideshow of special events, holidays, parties etc etc.

it's the way i do it, it works for me.

Ihave to back the digital option. We bought a 50" plasma earlier this year. It was $1800.00. Thats about 10 framed 20 x 30's. It takes an SD card or our cable will play on Flickr account. Either way we show 100's of photos ona random loop or programmed series at a fraction of the cost of framed. Not to mention they are "backlit" so no lighting or glare issues.

I wonder if this could work on Drapes.... If they were the right material, and the wall cling material looks good on it, then certain underwater images might make cool drapery....

Here's one I didn't think of :

WALL CLING from MPIX Get that Moray MONSTER size:

How Wall Clings are constructed
Your image is printed on premium Photo-Tex material which ranges from 18" – 72" sizes in height. One of our artists traces the subject(s) on the screen and creates a cut file that is used to laser cut the subject. The actual size of the finished Wall Cling depends on the size of the subject in the original print.
Tips for ordering Wall Clings
If possible, avoid extending the subject off the picture.
Crop your image prior to ordering.
In the 'Special Instructions' box provide direction on how much image to include in the final cutout.
When taking the picture, fill the frame with your subject. If possible, avoid using the zoom.
Good framing of your subject when you take the picture is very important.
Please provide a well-exposed image with the proper resolution. Typically a 6-megapixel camera will produce a quality Wall Cling. Below are minimum resolution requirements for optimal quality. A file must have this minimum resolution to be produced.
Size Minimum resolution
18x12 1800x1200
36x24 3000x2000
48x32 3000x2000
60x40 3000x2000
72x48 3000x2000

Looked at doing 24x36 electronic displays x3, but turned out to be to expensive. Just went with frames that photos can be added or removed easily. Here is what we ended us with. Photos-display.jpg

A question to those proposing the LED/Plasma television route. What do you do in other rooms and even other walls in the TV room? I would think there are other walls needing attention in each home.

i display my photos for ME if anyone else wants to look at them they are welcome. i've sat through too many holiday bad slide shows & cine (anyone remember that) to impose my photos on my guests.

i take my photos to the local camera club every month & get critical opinions from some top rate photographers (fellows of the Royal Photographic Society), it helps me choose the best for my wall.
