Nauticam housing for LX-5

I was just playing with an lx5, and I swear it can do properly exposed ttl flash, with the internal flash, all the way to 1/4000 sec shutter speed.

Does the inon or s&s fiber optic slave ttl modes actually work all the way up to that speed with this camera?

That would be major, in terms of freezing motion, and making black backgrounds!

I'm pretty sure that all point n shoots will sync up to max shutter speed......

Cardog, it depends on the camera, The LX-5 goes all the way to 1/4000th, but the Oly XZ-1 only goes to around 1/500th. Even at a 1/500th, you get (from 1/60th)..essentially 3 f stops worth (to make up for not actually having a wide range of f-stops. As the Oly has a wider actual F-stop range, the two camera's end up being close.

I am not sure about the Inon, but the Oly strobe will go all the way to 1/4000th, and S&S may (I know it goes to at least 1/1000th (will test this weekend and see).

One of the neat things about Panasonic is that their camera's, in general, will do optical TTL when set to manual, which several big name camera companies cannot do.

The XZ-1 does ttl in manual and the flash will sync at 1/2000 also.

I use hight shutter speeds for Macro or to freese motion with the LX3/5. I had one Inon strobe und recently i added a second one and TTL works in all situations very good. I usually never go beyond 1/2000s. Here some examples:

LX3, Manual Mode, f8 1/640s. This Flat Worm was moving and seems frozen and sharp on the image.


Lx5, Manual Mode, f4,5 1/1600s. Blak background with frozen motion.


Lx3, macro in Manual Mode, f8 1/1600s. Notice the white Nudibranch isn't over exposed.

Yes. I have the Inon s2000 and it works fine in ttl @ 1/2000
