My eCard was free with my renewal.

My understanding was that all pro's would get the card when they renewed for 2012 for free.

If you don't want to pay for it, don't. It's that simple.

I renewed but didn't get the free card, have contacted PADI they have not yet replied.

I don't want to pay, so won't.

Yes, I download the app for free and got my e-card free and I'm not on autorenewal. I paid my renewal in Oct. However mine was my MSDT card, not my Staff Instructors card. So I called Member Services and was told the SI is not a "Core" rating but a special rating, however MI and CD are core ratings...

Yet my eCard is for Staff Instructor. Odd

I'm not a PADI pro, I got the email as well and downloaded the app. Then it tells you to go to PADI's website to purchase the ecards for $37 each. So when you go to update the code in the app it tells you to sign in with your padi pro login and gives you the link if you dont have one. Sigh.

They charge for this? SSI website you can go type in your name and DOB and you can view and print off all of your cert cards for free.

At $37 a pop, PADI definitely is living up to its nickname..... Oh well I guess this helping of epic fail they are about to serve up will show the other agencies what not to do when they roll out their e-cards.

Epic fail? I don't see it that way.

I have yet to see the gun being held to anyone's head with PADI saying "you must buy an e-card"

If I didn't get my pro card free, I probably wouldn't have bothered. But, if I needed a replacement card (which does incur a cost), I would probably get the e-card as a replacement.

It will fail because unless they get a big push from the "freebie" cards given out on renewal and when divers cert. No one is going to believe them that what amounts to a digitally signed image is worth $37.

I would pay $10 maybe for a digital image but $37 is plain silly. Especially when your PIC at the start is only $20
