Some days I get so sick of taking flack for having the tech requirement that I feel like dumping the whole program...

That is an interesting threat. I have to wonder how many of your customers ended up going with HOG because you were providing parts support to end users? I wonder it they, and future customers, realize how tenuous that support may be? I suspect some customers might get really upset were that support to be withdrawn.

I remember when Scubatoys first showed up. I remember Larry's promise to sell service parts for any regulator they sold. Then I remember how they suddenly stopped doing that for some brands. Then it got to you had to talk to Joe if you wanted parts. I'm no longer sure what the status is of their original promise. I use to see them as something special and did not hesitate to send shoppers that direction. Now they are just one of a number of online sources worth checking out but nothing special. They have lost their distinction from the rest of the herd in my judgement.

oh stop stirring things up. My point was that it was frustrating to do a program that was unique to support divers, going MUCH further than any other brand was willing to go and getting flack from people that I didn't go far enough.

I know how many people have taken the class, it isn't that many and I would never cut off support to them.

It's foolish to offer a course that hardly anybody takes yet MANY people complain about. However I am convinced it is the right thing to do.

I say why not open up the class? Why not open the class to anyone that wants to pay and has a c-card? I would LOVE to get a Hog rig or 2 or 3. The problem is NO ONE near me services them and I cant take the service class. I think if the class was open to more rec divers it would greatly increase the Hog lines sales. Everything I read about them is wonderful. But if I cant get it serviced it just doesnt matter. Im sure you have your reasons for the the requirements to take the class. You know A LOT more about regulators and diving than I do. I want one of your regs and to be able to take the class to service it myself. Its just not eonomical for me to go get a tech cert to be able to take the class. The LDS can keep servicing my Scubapros for a long time before the math adds up.:(

Nick

If the class was opened up for Rec divers I would take it . In a heart beat. how about it

Ditto - I am currently trying to decide which tech class would qualify me to enroll in the class yet still benefit me the most, in the non-tech aspects of my current diving. I own most of the recommended special tools and two sets of Hog D1 regs (which i really enjoy diving!)

Seems to me that who is qualified to take the course is subject solely to the discretion of the instructor. They don't have to send proof-of-certification to anyone. It was offered to me, but I don't believe I need it. It would be nice to have the manual..................... even if only for the warm and fuzzy reassurance that there's nothing so idiosyncratic about the regulator that I shouldn't have bought it.

Chris....I think the HOG's should be your rec and tech regs :D

+1 but own 2 Edge regs.

You have to have a Hog D1 for the class and it is the only reg covered in the class(from what I read). If you have read the book by Vance Harlow also required for the class servicing you Edge should be easy after. There should be a good amount of carry over in design and servicing from the D1 to the your Edge.

The book required for the class is SCUBA Regulator Savvy by Pete Wolfinger.
