and the reason for this is because padi doesnt allow it or is it a decision the center has to make?

Its not the shops, its the agencies....that and I don't think Dive guide has a PADI equivalent. They go from master diver to DM, and SSI has dive guide in between, which combined with science of diving gets you to DM.

After half a year I found the right shop to do the dive guide. It is an SSI shop. I know already that as SSI Diveguide I can not work for PADI centres but could I work for CMAS (or other) centres? Is SSI really that unflexible compared to the other agencies and organizations?

Each agency is fairly protective of their own qualifications. It's basically a money thing IMO. PADI is quite famous for 'put another dollar in' when it comes to their qualifications and working your way up the pyramid. PADI doesn't want to accept SSI Divemasters because PADI never received the fees.

This goes for most?/all? agencies.

Regarading liability, PADI theoretically will defend a PADI pro in court (under certain circumstances). Theoretically this is where some of our fees go each year.

CMAS is quite different in their organisation, and their teaching structure is quite different from the 'mainstream'. For example CMAS/FFESSM introduces decompression diving at their Level 3* course. The tables they use have infromation on the different deco stops needed for dives down to 65m. These tables are given at Level 2*, however the diver in question is not supposed to do deco until Level 3*.

CMAS level 1* is fairly basic allowing divers to dive to 20m but only with a CMAS pro. It doesn't teach Level 1* to 'plan' dives using tables or computers.

This was my experience working in Djibouti for a PADI & CMAS/FFESSM club.
