Good Morning,

I am trying to get my Mares Icon HD Net Ready to turn on and am having no luck.

There is a flashing red light on the bottom right status led.

I have left it overnight to charge but there is no screen turn on.

If I move the charger around the flashing red led, becomes a solid red, which is it meant to be?

I bought this from overseas, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

AJ

Just to add to this:

Is the light meant to be solid or blinking red when charging?

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Worried that I have paid for a large paperweight.

Thanks in advance.

AJ

Heres what little I know I was playing with one at the LDS and it is very finicky about where you position the four small brass charging buttons on the charger cord as it relates to the brass indents on the base of the unit. REALLY crappy design by Mares. What were they thinking? Clearly a more distinct and solid connection wouild have made sense. Has nothing to do as where you bought it. Try that

Hello ajolly,
I purchased two Icon HD Net Ready units yesterday and one of them exhibit this problem. The good one charged up properly, showed information on its screen right away even at a miniscule 2% charge, and was interactive.
The inoperative one appeared to take a charge briefly, and then the lower right LED lit up solid red and stayed that way. Having two complete sets of components (cables, chargers, clips) I was able to determine that the problem was the computer and not any other component.
I called Mares support, and the tech told me that the battery in the unit was probably defective and needed to be replaced. Replacing the battery is not an end-user procedure - that is, you can do it, but it would void the warranty. The defective unit is back at the brick-and-mortar shop I got it from, either for replacement of the unit or of the battery; we shall see which happens.
If you purchased yours online and have nothing to lose, I think the battery is housed behind the spanner plug. The first question Mares technical support asked was if I had purchased my units online or through a dealer. I am not sure how helpful they would have been if I had said on-line.
Interestingly, some of the accessories were different between the units - one charger had a blue LED, one had a red LED. One came with an Australian plug adapter, one with a European plug adapter. All other components were identical, but the British mains plug adapters were of strikingly different quality. I kept the blue LED charger because that's what all the cool kids are doing these days.

Hi ajolly,

my IconHD some time ago shows the same behaviour. And I did as WetAndHappy tells in his posting. I opened the battery housing (the sealing screw has to small holes) and plugged of the battery cable inside. Than I waited some minutes and reconnected the battery. Again I tried to load ... and the Icon HD now displayed the charging screen! But if you do so you will lose warranty. Otherwise it is really simple to open it and if you carrefully close the battery compartment, avoiding to soil the packing ring, nothing should happen.

Quick update, the unit was replaced rather than serviced, so I don't know if the battery trick which worked for Pumuckel57 would have worked for my unit. Again, what have you got to lose?

FWIW, I had the same thing happen with a pre-owned Icon HD (not the AI version). Plugged it in and let it charge overnight, and the only thing that happened was a faint red glow from the lower right LED.

So I took it back to the LDS and they sent it to Mares for battery replacement. We'll see what happens ... :zen:

I just purchased an Icon HD Net Ready in September of 2015, and today it showed the SAME exact symptom - i.e. less than 6 months, less than 30 dives later and it has a red LED light when I plug the charger and simply WILL NOT CHARGE!!!

This is absurd. It's a brand new piece of equipment that cost me over 1.000 USD with the AirConnect - Mares, where is your quality control????

I am in Brazil and there are NO Mares reps here. What am I supposed to do now? Bring it back to the US next month on my next business trip and go looking for a dealer? I purchased it from Amazon, which is an authorized reseller, as far as I know.

Extremely disappointing. I don't even have the tools to open the battery compartment myself - nor am I supposed to have those tools, since Mares chose to make the battery cap extremely hard to open by design and require a specialized wrench to do so.

I can't tell you how this is sad - I mean 26 dives - is that ALL a Mares Icon HD Net Ready can give before its battery pukes completely? Embarrassing...

I have personally had an Icon HD for 5-6 years now. Mine just recently had trouble as described above. Unfortunately it happened the first day of a week long dive trip. I dive with a back up hosed computer console so I just used that for the week. Changing the battery after I got back solved the problem and it now works like a champ. I understand your frustration with a new computer and having to replace batteries already. Batteries can sometimes wear out soon and who knows how old the batteries were on the manufacturers shelf before being sold to Mares or how long the computer sat on the shelf at the dealer before you bought it. I am sure Mares will take care of it for you. The Icon has been a great computer to dive with. I have seen new computers from every manufacture have battery issues before right out of the box so this isn't just a Mares issue or an Icon issue.

It is interesting that I received no reply from anyone from Mares here - only yours. No means to contact them, no response whatsoever. For a brand that claims to spend quality time dedicating care to users on this board, I certainly do not qualify as "worthy" of a resolution.

I will ask again: HOW DO I SEND MY ICON HD NET READY IN FOR A WARRANTY REPAIR? WHERE DO I SEND IT TO???? I HAVE RESIDENCE IN CALIFORNIA (SAN FRANCISCO) AND I HAVE NO CLUE AS TO HOW TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH A BRAND NEW ICON HD NET READY THAT HAS LESS THAN 30 DIVES AND SIMPLY WILL NOT CHARGE AND WILL NOT TURN ON.

Is anyone from Mares listening? Do you care????????????

Sorry you're having a hard time. There was a Mares rep used to hang out in this forum, but haven't seen him for a while. Did you try emailing them directly?
