Setting the Hook receives Honorable Mention at the New York Book Festival

Hi all,

Setting the Hook was in about the top 5% of all entrants to the New York Book Festival (not to be confused with the New York Book Fair, which is a much bigger deal) to be awarded an Honorable mention. The festival is open to independently published books and looks for:

1. The story-telling ability of the author.
2. The potential of the work to win wider recognition.

There were about 5,000 entrants in multiple categories. Setting the Hook received the award for the General, Non-fiction category. The actual awards will be handed out at the Grolier Club in NY City later in the month, but I will not be able to attend.

Sorry if this comes across as self-serving, but I am pleased with the recognition, and frankly, I believe in the book's message and want others to experience it as well.

I must agree with the New York Book Festival. As with most good books, I will pick up for a second read. This is one of those books.

I just finished it ( thanks to AfterDark for loaning me his copy). Excellent book, reminds me of the era when I was certified (1980), although you went a lot farther with it than I did. I enjoyed the contrasting views of much of the East coast diving experiences of the 80s and 90s. After reading Shadow Divers, it gave an interesting view on what was going on on board the Seeker's rival boat, the Wahoo. Both books give excellent perspectives on the ethos of deep air diving in the early days and your book did an excellent job of explaining the evolution and hazards of deepwater / tech diving in the intervening decades.
