Technology marches on. I thought we wouldn't see a 3 for a while. Guess I was wrong. There's no chance the H2 dive housing will fit this, right?

It looks like the standard housing "IS" a dive housing. More news...

same here. i just bought mine with the dive housing.. FML

I just lost my original go pro.......guess I get to upgrade past the hero2 to the hero3.......Santa?

My Hero 2 is less than a year old, so not happy to hear that there is a newer camera already. I was reading about the GoPro Hero 3 on their website. Sounds good but my questions are:

Will the old LCD back fit or do we need to invest another $79?
Will there still be an issue of blurred photos and videos? Will a flat lens be necessary?
What about red filters? What will fit?

The housing is different so any Blurfix, Eye of Mine or other flat lenses may not fit the new housing for Hero3 Not ready to jump on it yet. I will be interested in seeing reviews of this camera once it becomes available and is tested.

I wouldn't whine too loudly if you just bought a Hero2, heck, having multiple cameras means multiple camera angles and multiple fun.

You don't "need" to upgrade to the Hero3, learn to use all the features and settings of the 2, then get a new 3 later.

I know you dont neeed to get a gopro3, but dammit, I got a 2 just over 3 weeks ago. In this day and age when we are all used to eg: iPhone/iPad upgrade dates and buy/hold out accordingly, it mighta been nice for gopro to leak a rumor of this release.

actually apple and gopro share some of the same traits - a niche market that grew big and super loyal fan base (ok- not price)

It mighta been nice to give that fan base a heads up by deleting stocks etc. its not like they have competition in this niche or locked in battle like Nikon-Canon!

Anyway, theres my 2 cent vent (or 300 bucks+dive housing vent- rather)

I also can't decide wether to upgrade or not - I've had mine for about 6 months now. I only really care about it being better in low-light. Higher resolution and frame-rates do little for me since I don't have (and won't be getting any time soon) pro-end editing software - so that's all moot, and I personally have no use for WiFi.

All old bacpacs (LCD, battery) ARE compatible with the Hero3 (thank goodness!), but it looks like we'd have to replace all the regular batteries and memory cards. Blurfix and the new slip on filters will NOT be compatible (I asked on SRP's facebook), but they will be making new filters for the new GoPro housing (at least the flat housing comes shipped in the box).

I'm gonna wait and see some real life footage of low-light stuff and figure if it's a worth-while improvement/investment. Luckily the holidays are coming up, so it should be easy to sell off the old model - and hopefully I could get a good return on the Blurfix if I indeed do sell it. If I can get 200-250 for the Hero2 + 100-150 for the Blurfix and red filter, I'd highly consider upgrading. I by no means think the Hero2 is poor, and the Hero3 is of little practical use for me - but I LOVE low-light photography, and I do complain about the Hero2 in this regard... but will 2x better be good enough to really make me happy? Dunno yet.

I'm also thinking of upgrading now just to get more $$ now in resale. The resale value will obviously just keep getting lower as time goes on, but it'd be cool if I can upgrade to each new generation for about 100 bucks if I keep current with it. I have a friend that does this with MacBooks... he'll buy the latest and greatest then sell it off when the new one comes out, and only spends about 200 every 2 years for the brand new machine since the old ones maintain a very good resale value.

Ohhhhhh decisions decisions. If only the damned thing stayed the same friggen size!! hahahaha. My only gripe about doing the upgrade is having to update all the accessories! I think this sort of upgrade came way to soon. I mean... they JUST released the flat dive housing and WiFi for the 'old' Hero... let people enjoy them for a bit! I really embrace the new technology they put in the camera, but the size didn't have to change quite yet!

I wish I was rich!
