I've not dove the Poseidon, but I know several who do including my tech instructor. I hear that when properly tuned, they rock, but that they are a bit finicky to get serviced and maintained properly. He maintains his own, so that's not an issue for him. Just passing along what I've hard.

I didn't go with them simply because they aren't sold in the shops in central IN. However, the Aqua Lung Legend had an outstanding reputation for reliability and performance in deep, cold water, so that's what I went with. I haven't been disappointed in the least with them. They are my primary back gas regs and they have performed flawlessly over the past 6+ years.

Does Any one Brand have better warranty than others. i know some offer parts for servicing if the annuals are done on time. i have to figure out what shops can service what regs. I have to say that i like the apex XTX 50. I was trying to figure out what the deal is with the XTX-50 status as compared to the XTX-50. anyone know?

Forget the Status, it has a built in computer that supposedly checks the IP and shows whether it's high or low. Just unnecessary gimmik from Apeks

They are quite difficult to find a good technician for.

Another vote for Poseidon regs. I'm kinda shocked more people don't use them, they are truly the work-horse reg of the industry.

But then again, today there are lot of good regs.

The Mares Abyss 22 Navy was approved by NEDU for temperatures down to 29 degrees Fahrenheit. That is pretty darn impressive.

isnt the Apeks and the agualung pretty well the same? In any case, i think the apeks xtx-50 would be a good reg for me. Also, does anyone have any info on the apeks tek 3? theres a doubles boxset available. i would be able to use just one the 1st stages for diving singles right?

The best? Probably something like a Phoenix royal aquamaster (doublehose). Failing that, I'd say any modern dry sealed diaphragm reg with a metal or metal barreled second stage: dive rite, HOG, apeks, zeagle, mares, aqualung, brand really isn't a big issue as long as service is aavailable where you're diving.

Now why would you want to get the tek 3? Sure you can use the tek 3 for singles but you'll have to figure out the hose settings as it was designed for doubles.

More trouble then it's worth IMO. The DS4/XTX50 has been used at depths like 100m perfectly. You got money to burn again then get the Tungsten which is a FSR n XTX200 with all the trimmings.

You want the best performing Apeks, get the XTX100. Which is the FST and xtx 100.

Since, you seem to be always looking for something special get the aqualung legend lx... it breaths easier n smoother then most of the regs including the xtx200.

I own all 4 regs before and I still have my DS4 and legend lx.

As for Poseidon regs... they are fantastic regs however, I don't dive in subzero conditions nor anything approaching 100m (60-70m maybe) also I hated the way they breath

If you are one of the unlucky ones (more often then not) and get a technician that isn't that good you'll get a very expensive and jerky performing reg. They cost a lot to buy a lot to maintain and if not serviced just right, you'll get your tonsils blasted into your lungs or have an asthmatic dive.

Good luck getting parts and a good technician for one of these if something goes fubar on a trip.

With my aqualung or apeks, I almost never have to worry bout parts, servicing or ease of use.
