Going through the process now. My unit was working well but fell in the category of needing the update. Being in Canada, I had to send it to Canadian Distributor for them to forward on to California. It arrived at Cdn Distributor last Wednesday, 7th, but has not arrived in California yet. The DEMA show is on, so I will wait till next week to try and track it down. Hopefully get it back before the big Xmas rush.

Guess there's certain batch of D1 having such problem and I heard there actually realized which batch was it based on the product serial no. Maybe you are the lucky one who got the good one, but it's good anyway to sending it for the latest update to ensure everything works well.

Did you contact them yourself for the update or they contacted you? Seem your case, canada distributor doesn't own the hardware to do the firmware update else it would be faster to get back your strobe.

The bad strobe should have been accepted by the retailer and a working unit shipped immediately. Having to send in a strobe that was bad almost out of the box on your dime is BS.

Sea&Sea picked up my strobe for free.

Two 1/2 weeks later, it was back.

No cost, very little hassle. Just had to package it.

There was no cost to me. Initially Sea&Sea tried to arrange for FeD Ex to pick up from me, but ran into a snag trying to do an International Pick Up. That's why I had to send it to CDN Distributer. The company I purchased the unit from reimbursed me the shipping costs. Hopefully they can recover this from Sea & Sea. Now I'm just waiting for the unit to get from BC to California, updated and back to me. But with everyone at DEMA, it will be a bit of a wait I think.

That's what I figured. Have a major trip in February and want the strobe in perfect order.

No, I heard about it. initially here on SB and checked with the retailer who sent me the info on the update. Yes, you are correct it has to be done in California.

That's better than I would have expected. They originally tried to stick me with the cost of repairing one of the -D1s, but since it was my 3rd replacement, both myself and the owner of the store I got them to back down.

Probably, They don't really know what's the reason of defecting the strobe earlier until receiving lots of complaint and mostly the same error found. We got the latest updated firmware D1 on 13th Nov in Hong Kong and receive the tools to do the update few days before. Probably they just realize it's the firmware error not long ago. And, now we can send it for free for the process. Not sure for those who shipped or repaired with own cost can claim back the money? Doubt that.

Still have not heard about the whereabouts of my YS-D1 STROBE. Mailed from Ontario on Nov 2, Arrived at Cdn Distributor, November 7th. It is now Nov 23rd and as far as I know Sea and Sea in California has not received it in order to complete the firmware update. Twenty one days and counting. (sigh)

Oh, Canada.

(Sorry. Couldn't resist. Having to deal with an international border and another level of distribution is, undoubtedly, adding to the time and confusion. Best of luck.)
