Hey all,

I am taking my wife to Thailand for her 30th in Jan. We are planning on hitting up Phuket and Phi Phi. My wife does not scuba dive (she likes to snorkel), but I do. Are there any dive ops that can take the both of us to do both diving and snorkelling?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Yes most dive centres also cater for snorkelers too. There are a few sites which are not good for both as they are too deep for snorkeling or in open ocean, but most would work for you.

You can contact us directly if you want more information :)

On all boats both divers and non-divers are welcome.

For non-divers the Racha Islands offer the best snorkeling, the trips to Phi Phi offer snorkeling as well, but the sites are more challenging for snorkelers.

I spent two weeks diving off Phi Phi Island. Loved my time there (of course it had nothing to do with the lovely Dutch divemaster I dove with). We had snorkelers on board at least when we dove from their bigger boats. I don't remember if any were on board when we dove from the smaller longtails.

Which dive op did you use on Phi Phi?

Thanks!

To be honest most of the dive boats are not ideal for snokelers, you will be very much looking after yourself so you would want to be fairly confident in the water. I would recommend a speedboat trip with someone like offspray leisure. It may be bit more expensive then the other options but it's a great day out for divers and snorkelers alike, relaxed pace, lunch on the beach etc. They are based in Phuket and do trips to Racha and Phi Phi

paddydiver - I agree. We really resist booking non divers on the dive boats, only now and then to Racha Yai or Similan Islands, but make sure the people are aware they are on a dive boat and snorkeling time may be limited since the boat is there to look after divers. Offspray is excellent, though does not have more than a couple of trips per week. In general the best dive sites are not the best snorkeling sites.

Princess Divers is the most professional operation in PHI PHI, they can accommodate snorkelers in their Dive Trips and they take really good care of snorkelers too. They do long surface intervals in crowded but still beauty full Maya Bay, "The BEACH". Pay them a visit for information and you will see what I'm talking about. Ask for Manu when you get there, really helpfull, patient and knowledgeable instructor.
cheers
