Hog D1 first stage long hose routing

Hey all.

I've recently obtained a HOG D1 first stage. I have it mounted 'upside down' at the moment for use with a single tank - so that the long hose comes out of the port at the top of the turret, pointed down and slightly to my right side. The other LP hoses then mount in the turret at the sides. Pointing the long hose down like this makes for very clean routing, but it means the environmental seal is then pointing up. I was on a boat on the weekend where someone was insisting that this was an issue.

Is it?

Clarification would be appreciated.

Not an issue, I do it this way on my singles and doubles sets. Next time just smile and ignore the misinformed helper.

No it is not an issue. Every single tank rig I sell that is assembled is set up this way. Ask the "genius" what way would be correct with a long hose and then say "thanks, now go away and leave me alone". It is, as you said, very clean and works well.
What other pearls of wisdom did they impart?

Jim, they had strong opinions on a number of things Nice enough person, though. Lucky we weren't talking politics I guess! The reasoning was that with the environmental seal up it is more susceptible to damage, which sounded plausible enough.

You shouldn't rig it with the seal up? I've done that all the time so I could confirm my seal was in good shape. LOL

Maybe in a cave or wreck. Scratch that. If a diver is banging the reg in a cave or wreck perhaps they should not be there. In fact they wouldn't be there in a single tank anyway.

Mine are pointed up at an angle on my doubles. Even if something does happen to the environmental seal you will just have a non sealed reg. I will take the very slight chance of damaging the seal for the superior house routing.

There is really no point in arguing with people like this, chances are they know everything anyway.

Single-mount, who cares? You won't be doing any overhead diving so nothing is going to damage the seal but I mount mine diaphragm up so that the hoses are tucked away.

On doubles and stage bottles I mount the body sideways with the diaphragm "in" so that the diaphragm is protected from pokies and so that the body can provide a little protection for the hand wheel.

I don't know that the guy was wrong but he wasn't right, either. It never hurts to listen to other ideas but it's your tank and your neck so make up your own mind.
