jlyle,

I am confused, do you turn off the feature that turns the EVF off when you are not using the EVF?

No, the EVF doesn't turn off (until the camera goes to "sleep" because you haven't taken a picture for a while).

Burhan, I wasn't clear and have edited my post to clarify what I said.

When the EVF control is ON and you put the camera up to your face to look through the view finder, the LED display (monitor) turns off. The display turns inself on again when you take your eye away from the viewfinder. With the EVF control OFF, the display stays active if you look through the viewfinder. When the camera is inside a housing, you have to turn the EVF control to OFF, otherwise the camera will not show the monitor display. Does that make any sense?

1. When the EVF control is turned to on: as I am looking through the EVF, the LCD display will turn off

2. When I take my eye away from the EVF, the LCD will turn on again

3. With the EVF Control off, LCD stays active even when you are looking through the EVF.

4. When the camera is inside housing, the camera can't sense your eye viewing the EVF and >>>> This is where I am lost.

When you are talking about the LED display, are you talking about the EVF or the LCD display below the EVF????

Thanks so much for the instructions. I'll turn off the screen and see what happens. I haven't even taken it diving with the strobe kit yet. I'm certain this is a camera with a whole heap of features I'm not aware I need yet.

I can't wait to take it diving again so I can muck around with all the settings. Practise practise practise.
cheers

I just got this book and I am trying to read it. The issue with it is that when I turn each and every single page, it comes off the binding. By the time I read the whole book, it won't be a book anymore. I figured that it is OK since I'll put it in a 2 ring binder after I scan it (for travel).

BTW, it is a difficult boring read when you don't have the camera next to you. You fall asleep faster this way.

:)

funny but so far the book has held up

Just a heads up - there are some errors in this book,as reported in this thread - OMD EM5 book? - Micro Four Thirds User Forum
The real info starts on page 3 / 4 for those that do not want to read the entire thread.
Nothing too serious, but just some things that you should be aware of. Also reports of the book falling apart as well.

One of the authors has contributed to the thread as well, so there is info from the horses mouth ....
